That's what lead hats are for. I worked in a fleet shop that had gps tracking on there trucks. Some of the drivers made hats that they would sit over the antena (sp?) and (bang!!!) the boss had no idea where they were parked getting blow jobs.

This is just a crock of SH*T!
If this passes Id just have to disconnect the spedo cable and install my own gps to get my MPH.
These guys already tax us enough!
Just my $0.02!

if they do this instead of the state gas tax I am in,

But have you ever seen a government discontinue a tax for a different one? Never.

I really don't think this is something we have to worry about, I doubt this state could get its shit together enough to do it, and if they did how would they enforce it/install all the units etc.?

The worst thing is that people have short memories, they will end up raising the gas tax while fuel is still under $2 a gallon and then when its $6 a gallon and everyone is crying they will have forgotten they voted to raise the taxes.

The biggest crock of shit with the push for more highway money is the way they sell potholes as the leading cause for needing new money. How much of the states highway money was spent on the light rail system in Portland, how much is spent on Portland area mass transit? Does absolutely nothing for me but my tax dollars still fund it, and leave many parts of the state very under funded.

Even more insidious are the insurance programs that are interested in the same data. In England there are programs where you can get discounted insurance rates by providing GPS data with time of day information. If you are young and don't drive at night in the club / bar district you get better rates. Rates can be further reduced by contracting for coverage on a pay as you go model...

While this starts as voluntary... as more people seek better rates for themselves the market eventually shifts so that if you don't provide data you will be considered higher risk and pay more.

The end implication is that it becomes criminal for a person to be out and about at certain times of day if their financial means don't support it. IE the young male adult cannot afford to drive after 10pm in urban centers as the insurance company charges a premium for vehicle usage during certain hours in certain locals based on risk.

Better than a twat that says "There's no budget deficient, we have a rainy day fund" for months on the campaign trail. Then after election day the deficiet somehow jumps 6.6 billion dollars. Now on top of a 10% sales tax we're looking to INCLUDE an income tax.

Why do I have to register my septic tank for $250? And why must I pay $350 to have it inspected? If it was truly for my health, why wouldn't anyone want to see my well?

Lastly, bought my house for $310k in August. In late September the market crashed and prices declined "dramatically." My '09 tax assessment is for 360k for a town I live 10 miles from and NEVER occupy.

I have no problem with Oregon :)

Progressive I know for sure also gives you discounts in the US for having the gps tracker installed in your vehicle its 10-15% discount

The thing is most new vehicles already have a "black box" style system in it, where it records vehical dynamics/driving patterns and it stores the data for x amount of time, its designed to help authorities in car accidents, but the most involved system is on the Nissan GT-R where it will actually tell the dealership what thresholds have been crossed so if you track the car they can void the warranty.

Citation needed. :flipoff:

There has been a LOT of talk about the black box in cars and who has access to them. So far the legal action I have seen confirmed denied the car manufacturer the right to use the info in a specific vehicle basis. If you are familiar with a case witht he Nissan that has played out please let me know I am very interested in keeping up to date on this issue.
