I work at a hardware/autoparts store so ton of wranglers come in and out. So this guy comes in with his 2004 rubicon with like $15,000 in mods and says that he will do an even title swap for my 98 cherokee classic, ive only got a 4 inch lift and 33" tires. I know what the xj can handle so i dont want to lose it, but its been beat to hell and has like 175,000 miles. My question is can the is their any advantage of the wrangler over my xj and should i do the title swap?

Wrangler's sure hold their value better than an XJ, so I'd like to understand what the benefit to the Wrangler guy is having the XJ.

Thats what I said its to good to be true, he has to have some sort of angle, is that the only advantage of the wrangler the frame cause ive seen them in the mud and it wasnt very impressive.

The guy is either a crackhead, has a stolen vehicle, or is yanking your chain. Think about it man... If it sounds to good, then it is. Tell him he needs to come up with $4k plus his Rubi, or no deal.

Be cautious about it... but if it is all legit, definitely do it. Awesome deal for you, IF it's not some sort of scam... Does sound too good to be true, but Good Luck regardless! :)

yup, too good to be true. Barring knowing the guy, the other jeep sounds hot or broken. Run a car fax on the vin. Some say never look a gift horse(rusted pony in this case) in the mouth, I say consider the possible vet bills. Anyway, my.02

that would be my guess. I had 3 people want to strait trade their vette/whipplecobra/sstrailblazer for my ss camaro when I was selling it. In every case it turned out that they wanted me to trade them my SS (paid for) to take over their payments, with at least 10k left in all cases, the vette had $25k left.

Maybe it's an old 97 with the ubiquitous RUBICON stickers anyone can buy.

Run! Its the Nigerian scam being perpetrated by a white guy in person with a Jeep! :D
Find out why he wants to trade. Does he owe too much on it? Does it go through 3 qts a day? Is it in actuality a Daihatsu Rocky with a body kit?;)

He was at the auto parts store?
Check the oil for coolant - probably has a warped head or blown head gasket.
He's GOT to be covering something up!
...
either that, or he's REALLY stupid.

Even with a blown head gasket/waroed head, he'd be retarded to do it.

Check with the state agency that handles car titles in your state for any liens on the title.

And if I had my way I would have have bought Tipy from you. I would still buy it, except from what I have seen on that thread the guy is trying to rob the new buyer.

Did he say 8K? I would say he is trying to get more considering he said a lowball offer was 7.5k.
