Still planning my stroker build but trying to decide on what compression to run. I was thinking that the SCR would be around 9.5:1, now living only 650 ft about sea level, am I most likely going to have to run premium? What are other people running in there 4.6L strokers around sea level? I know this really depends on other things but its just a rough estimate right now.
Also, hopefully in the future I may slap on a turbo, should I really go forged pistons and rods or will it be alright to use just some regular KB pistons and 258/4.0 rods? I really don't hammer down to much, but I want to be safe than sorry.

strenght harden and destress the rods, I think it could take a light boost pressure (I hope so I plan to do it). As far as gas goes, I run premium in the summer and I can get away with mid grade in the winter in my 4.7l. It is really not that bad price wise, about 2 bucks on a tank.

Yeah gas isn't bad now because of the economy. Its actually about 1.79 here in cleveland, pretty sweet. I most likely will only run about 5-8psi at the most so I hope the rods and pistons can withstand that.

like I said, shot peen, de stress, then heat soak them and I think it should be OK at those PSI. Splurge on the pistons first, those are most likely going to be the first weak link in the chain.

I have the stock cam in my '92 XJ 4.6 stroker with a 9.25:1 SCR. Runs happily on 91 octane at sea level in 115*F mid-summer heat.

nice, I did not dish the pistons I got at all. Just whatever was standard on an off the shelf .060 badger brand aluminum piston. So I need to go back and re figure my compression ratio. anything less than mid grade and It is just not as happy

You can run higher than 9.5:1 if you'd like, as long as you have means to tune timing and log knock.

right, and when I get either my megasquirt setup built and running or some other OBD1 tuning system built I will be able to do that. For right now though the premium seems to run just fine with no complaints.
