I accidentally over slept this more, so I walk in 30 mins later that I normally do. By now the place should be hopping, and yet I walk into a dark office section where my office. It's official, I AM the only one here.
. . . it's going to be a very long 8 hrs.

You try writing/editing engineer specification for +8 hours without any human interaction and tell me how that works out for you. Sanity can be a very fragile things when one's mind is tasked with solitary review of technical writings. . . kind of like a very bad B horror movie.

I hear ya. I get to stare @ excel spreadsheets of geologic drill core results. They're a huge clusterfk, so I get to copy/paste/sanitize what I need so I can import into an access database.
Net sports radio and you guys(NAXJA) help with the cabin fever feelings. I keep getting texts to go hang out from 'friends' who know I'm @ work. bastards

What kind of drill cores? What type of company do you work for up in CO? Sounds like we might have some cross over in our work fields.

Cool! I have a pretty extensive background in placer and hard rock mining, along with assaying and milling processes(float cells, gravity tables, etc. . .
But now my work, if it involves mining, generally involves cleaning up old mine sites, or site characterization and environmental testing.

Nice. I just got done with college w/GIS degree. This is (hopefully) just a stopgap job. Internship turned part time work, no benes. At least it's employment. Still gotta fix up my resume to find some real work. Shoulda brought my jump drive and done it here today, oh well. Trying to get details taken care of for wedding (Jamaica!) in a couple weeks too.

...speaking of bad B movies, I went to a white elephant party and got 13 hours of monster movies. Seeing that I'm off until next year, I've got plenty of time. I think I'll go put one on now. I got Destroy All Planets, Gamera vs. Monster X, War of the Monsters, Yongary, Monster From the Deep, Warning From Space and several others. Which should I watch?

I vote for Gamera v Monster X, then follow up with Event Horizon.

Good idea. I'll have to go to the movie store and get Event Horizon. I'll do that after I work on the Jeep this afternoon. It's supposed to get up to around 65 today.
Now get back to work.

Today everyone but 2 people is here (out of 8). That number will be dropping sharply as the week goes on. I'll likely be the only one here on Friday.

They're leaving. It's noon, and so far about 25% of the people that were here have left.
It's beginning to remind me of being on midwatches back in the Marines. The SCIF would empty except for me. After a few hours, I would begin to hear doors opening and closing, but no one was there. Very creepy.

Yeah, when I was at the MCTSSA OFTSSC working the grave shift it would be me and a civilian. And he'd usually be asleep until I woke him with a phone requiring his knowledge...:D

Yeah, yeah. I was trying to remember where I had seen that before.
I was with the '4th SSCT' attached to the 3rd MAW.
SSCT ended up being the Secret Squirrel Communications Team since we were always in the SCIF while in garrison.

We were part of MarCorSysCom - Marine Corps Systems Command. MCTSSA is where they do a lot of the testing/development on new equipment and comm systems.

I remember pulling mid-watch camp patrol as an E-2 on Okinawa (Camp Shields). Walking thru the equipment yards, I could swear I heard stuff, but never saw anyone/anything. Cloudy or moonless nights were pretty hazardous. Not many lights and all the areas not buildings, parking lot/grinder, road, or sidewalk was straight up untamed jungle. Wandering around in the dark(no flashlight issued, personals were 'unauthorized equipment') with a prc-77(heavy bastards) and white watch helmet(sperm cap) trying to avoid falling over and getting hurt. It was better than dealing with the drunks in the barracks tho.

Yeah, it was fun being one of the drunks back in the barracks. ;)

It was def. better that way!
I loved the alphabet soup language. I think we (NMCB-5) were attached to a Marine outfit for tactical ops, I MEF 3MEB 26MAW (or some such nonsense) and CINCPACFLTNAVCONSTBATT 3rd Brigade for everyday ops.
There's always the unofficial acronym library too.
BOHICA, FNG, etc.

You guys got any offices in SoCal with open positions for a staff geologist with 10+ years experience?

Just checked, and no we don't have any openings for a staff geologist in SoCal. We do have an opening in Los Alamos/Silver City, NM. But that is a bit of a drive.

I'm working a half day today, off for Christmas tomorrow, and working again Friday. We're here to serve the Marines (issue gear, training) but we still show up even if they don't.

So were both of you Marines really in the comm world? Or were you INTEL since you worked in a SCIF (SBrad)? I'm a comm-ie myself, and my last two jobs (deployed and now this one) have had me working in a SCIF. Fun stuff. I like it b/c I can run shit the way I want AND I get to see what's really going on in the world - especially when I worked in a SAPF inside a SCIF ;)
Worked with Marine Comm guys before, when I was in Guam. Always seriously impressed with their range of knowledge - they'd do anything from mobile radios, crypto, PCs, SatCom....where as in the AF, that's like 5 different career fields...

I was a SigInt operator for my for my first four years on active duty. Upon entering the active reserve, I did a lateral transfer to Tactical Air Controller.

I repaired the gear that Brady probably used as a Tactical Air Controller. That is, if he was inside the TAOM. We touched on a lot of stuff while deployed, comms on HF, VHF, UHF, a little satellite, and almost everything was encrypted.
