are you talking about the oil sending unit?
I'm guess he means the coolant temp.
If you got new sending units with your gauges, you may need to relocate the new sender. There's not a lot of room back there if the new sender is larger. If so, look at a 91+ thermostat housing. It has a tapped hole for the coolant temp sender on the open system cooling systems. You may be able to locate the new sender here.
Leave the old one in place.
