I was thinking about picking this up tomorrow for $2400. I'm looking for a nice DD that I can also do a little wheelin with. I'll probably go with a rough country 3" lift and 32" tires if I get it.
What do you think?

I wouldnt pay that much, personally, but it looks pretty good and has decent mileage.
Be sure to KBB it and see what its worth, which is prolly half that. I would just be careful and don't just think some random guy is gonna get rid of a jewel of a Jeep just because.
Good luck.

kbb is 2200 for excellent condition 2000 for good condition.
Though it's hard to find one thats not beat to hell for less than 2500 around here. Most are in rough shape.

I haven't had a chance to yet because of work. Also he said the inspection was out so I asked if he would get it inspected that way I know it will pass emissions before I buy it.
I'm suppose to go look at it tomorrow morning if he calls me back.

I went to look at it today, but I found it to have a lot of rust unerneath. There was a hole on the passenger floor large enough to put my hand through and I could touch the carpet. The rest of the undercarrage wasn't much better.
It also smelt a little moldy inside, I can still smell it on my clothes from sitting in the jeep.

Wanna give us specifics of what exactly you're looking for? Like year, motor (easy to assume 4.0, but does it need to be HO or not?), tranny, color, 2dr? 4dr? Price range? Built? Not built yet (cuz as midian keeps telling me, Jeeps are built, not bought...lol)?
There are several on CL (as I'm sure you know) starting from around $800. It shouldn't be hard to find a base to build from.

Def not worth 2400 with a swish cheese floor. Fixing a floor can be a pain in the rear. Trust me on that one. The mold smell is most likely the holes in the floor letting the jute padding under the carpet getting wet. If you feel you can fix the floors(weld in new pans or piece patch it) offer them alot less and see what they say. I wouldn't pay more then 800 to 1000 with the pans in that condition and that's providing that the rest of the XJ is in great to awesome shape. Make sure to point out the flaws to the seller. If they will not budge tell them no thanks and start looking again for one. Look in our for sale section there are a few in there. And yes "Jeeps are built not bought", but sometimes some deals are to good to pass up. KBB would consider this poor condition with the floors the way they are even though the outside and interior are in good to great shape. Just me .02

Thanks for the help guys!
Yes when I saw the rust I waled away and didn't look back.
I just bought this one today http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/966544845.html
It is a little rough but has no rust, mechanically is good and for $1400 I think I did good.
I have been working on cars for 6 years, but this is my first 4x4, I plan to do all the work I can myself.
I plan to turn it into a DD / moderate trail rig and I also have a Yamaha R1 that I'm going to use this to pull to and from the track.
BTW I have been posting under my friends s/n while looking for a Jeep, now that I have one I'm going to make my own. I will be posting under BMuu35 for now on.

Yup! It's really not in that bad of shape either. It has a dent in the roof from someone standing on it, the hatch wont open, front bumper is dent and a dent in the passenger door.
Other than that though its in great condition mechanically, even the headliner isnt sagging :D very clean engine bay, new hoses, belts, plugs, wires ect..
Im going to take the interior out and pressurewash the seats and carpet if it warms up some, Then I will take all the side trim off and roll on bedliner on the bottom part where it's black.
I will try and get some pictures up soon.

Probably the catch inside, just crawl into the back, pull the plastic back and pull that latch open manually. then peel the plastic off and perform any needed repairs.

I still can't post under my account but I thought I would share some progress pictures.
Here is why the hatch will not work.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii24/bmuu35/_MG_0016-1.jpg
I did some fiberglass repair and used herculiner to paint the bottom of the hatch, I will also be using the herculiner to do the lower sides where its currently black.

I still need to get some parts to make the lock work, but at least there is no longer a hole. I also plan to hammer that dent out on the rear bumper until I can afford some off road bumpers.
I also pressure washed the seats and interior, it was pretty nasty but it looks good now. I threw in some new rubber floor mats as well and I just got through ordering some new 33/10.5/15 BFG KM2's, They should be here early next week.

I ordered 33x10.5 BFG KM2's for it last week, they are coming to my local 4wp today, I will be ordering a 4.5" rough country lift this Friday.

4.5" is too much lift for 33x10.50s! Stick with 3" and trim it! (trust me-I ran that setup!)

4.5 with no trimming is great for 33's

I was thinking I would have to do some trimming even with the 4.5" and 33's?
My friend used to run a 4.5" lift with 33x12.5's and I always thought that was a good combination.
I will still consider a 3" though, that's part of why I haven't ordered the lift yet, Im still deciding.

Flores...why on Earth would he need 6" of lift and 35's? There is a lot to be said about a lower center of gravity.

why is jen's spare tire higher than the roof of your house?
FYI she has 6.5 or slightly more and 35's

What are the details on the 3" lift you had? Do you have any pictures? How much trimming was done?
Thanks!

I will be trimming the fenders, leaving only the "mini flare". The 33's rub if the suspension articulates the way it sits now.
I have already started cutting the fronts, I gotta finish tomorrow so I can take her wheeling :D.
Next on the list after trimming the fenders is to make a rear bumper, I plan to cut and fold the back quarter panel up and have the rear bumper wrap around the sides to protect the quarter panel.

Yes Flores, but you said he needed some, so unless you're offering yours to him for the same price you gave it will cost him.
