Have fun getting fined!
Leaving the main road = ticket
Driving fast and splashing = ticket
Spinning tires in the mud = ticket
And they have been really strict lately. South OC is getting tired of flatbillers tearing up public roads.

There was talk of a potential Truckhaven run on Sunday, if I'm not up at Goatmans. We'll see what happens..

It's completely and totally legal as long as you aren't an asshat. I lived in RSM for years...12 years of messing around out there and I've never been fined. There's a very popular hiking and MTB trail toward the back of Holy Jim...it's a public road. You just have to stay on the road.
I really just want to see how deep the water crossings are right now.
I've rescued plenty of kids in 2WD trucks, the Sheriff doesn't even look at me twice. He can see I wasn't one of the jack-asses leaving the trail to do rooster tails. ;)
Anyway, it's near Lake Forest/RSM. If you wanna roll out there in an hour or two, let me know. I'll be leaving around then.

its perfectly legal yes, to drive at 15 mph and not tear up the mud. When I lived in OC I hiked holy jim frequently, and would often go back when it was raining to photograph the waterfalls. I've towed 30 or so kids out of there myself, and I've had to sit there while they kids I was towing out got fined.
It is not however legal to run the road at speed splashing up a lot, and they are cracking down on it more than they did in past years.

Just wondering, why is it illegal to splash through the puddles. I can see roosting through the dirt ruining the land and digging holes, but splashing through puddles? :dunno:

1) speed limit
2) it tears up the road, which is the only driveway for the full time residents and the holy jim fire deparment

So then, like I said...the "have fun getting fined" thing is totally irrelevant unless you're an asshat.
This is not a Jeepspeed race track. ;) I'm just gonna bring my camera out there and see if there's any decent water.
I have great photos from the "big flood" in the ealr 90's that re-shaped the canyon during the El Nino year. I was helping people cross the river on downed power poles. It was pretty crazy!

yeah, thats kinda been the point all along - its a dirt road leading to a small community, and once the road dries after the rain its nearly impassible to street cars until they grade it, due to people playing in the mud puddles, getting stuck, and tearing the road up trying to get out.

So true! Last time it rained I drove by the entrance and there were 3 lifted fords next to 2 cop cars getting tickets. They were all standing outside of their trucks with an officer 'watching' them. It was really funny cuz it looked like he was punishing them by making them stand in the rain. :roflmao:

No need to be snooty. A simple "make sure if you go out there, you obey all the laws or you WILL get a ticket" should suffice.
So please...if you have to fly thru obstacles and puddles at 30+mph to have fun, stay home. This ain't the place! ;)

Holy Jim was very uneventful. No cops, and not nearly as much water as I had hoped! There was one big puddle (headlight deep), other than that just a cruise up and back. You didn't miss much. ;)
