I accepted Ghost's challenge and went red, are you man enough? It was a simple as clicking the link and entering my card info. Not 30 sec later my name was red. I had been procrastinating b/c I thought you had to use paypal or wait 4 weeks with mail. I was wrong, didn't have to sign up for paypal, just enter the info and that's it. Check it out if you can handle it... go to paid subscriptions under usercp, check the link and take the ride.

Good point Glenn. Because of the monies that NAXJA received through memberships, the SEC was able to donate to the Save Tellico Fund. This will go towards the fight to Tellico open.

Grats to Dalty! Hope to see you on the trails soon.
The rest of you pansies... enough excuses. Get a job, move into your own place, and most importantly show your :NAXJA: support! Living off your parents is lame. At least record the chick's face when you invite her back to your parents place so the rest of us can get a laugh out of it :roflmao:

If you are creepin around here with more than 500 posts (not just you 256) than its time to contribute don't you think. So you say "Well, I was a member but I went black because..." Well you are still here huh? So it must not be that bad, right? How bout you be a flamer join a club but not pay dues. Thats real cool. If you feel that everybody on NAXJA should have to read your posts then why aren't you a member? NAXJA is more than a website, its an association. Associations aren't free so how bout paying the fee (i know its a fortune), support the club, and help us work toward a more active chapter. There are a lot of changes going on right now with a lot of great ideas bouncing around. The more people we have on board the easier it is to plan sponsored events. Help out and do your part to make this club the best organization it can be.

Well in that case just looking at her would still be a good laugh!
On a serious note... Alienating people is not the way to persuade them to join up and fork over $$. :NAXJA: allows people to be forum users free for a reason. Being a member has privileges that are worth the $$, recruit people by explaining and promoting those privileges.

Every March, NAXJA promotes a membership drive. They have a giveaway item that goes to the chapter with the most new members. One of the new members from that chapter has the opportunity to win the item.
I would say join when you are ready. I joined a month shy of last years drive. It didn't make any difference to me.
The way I see it, if we are growing with active members, we win either way.

I am all for supporting a forum/website. I have been a paying member on Pirate for over 4 years and have thought about it here many of times.
The one question I have for The SEC Chapter here is why is Kentucky not included in the SEC? I am originally from GA anyway so I am going to frequent this Chapter forum either way, because it is the area I am familiar with. I am on the KY/TN line, you include parts of VA and WV but not KY. Yet you hold rides for the SEC right here in Harlan.

Back when the SEC was first formed, it was a smallish core group of folks - maybe a dozen- who were pretty much centered in GA. For a couple of seasons, The Crawl summer event (@ tellico) had a larger draw, from not just the SEC, but also from the bordering chapter areas. The chapter has since grown in numbers, and has a much wider inclusion of folks from all the states. Naturally, as the leaders change, the geographic "center" may tend to change some. And that's OK in my view.
One of the major challenges is the wide area the Chapter includes. Most of the wheeling areas seem to be along the Appalachian ridgeline & foothills, so that tends to 'include' folks closer to those, and 'excludes' folks less willing to travel. For me, it's 7-9 hours to Tellico, Windrock, Harlan, GWNF, & Rausch Creek. I haven't been to the other parks in SC, GA, AL, or TN... a few might be a little closer, others a bit farther in travel time & distance. The only ways to overcome the challenge of geography is to keep spreading the events out to be inclusive, and to keep making the events worthwhile to attract participation.
Here's one more little point... My recollection of KY (and WV/VA) was that around the time chapters were formed, there was but one motivated member - KYChris. He was from Louisville, and tended to participate in MWC goings on more than the SEC. Harlan as a destination wasn't around then. I don't recall anyone from WV, so there wasn't much interest in claiming it. Many No VA folks tended toward the NAC, but the SE-SWVA folks sort of fit in with the SEC. I assume it's still that way and probably should be. My recollection could be somewhat mistaken, it's been quite a few years back.
That basically covers it form another thread.

To get an idea of why the SEC doesn't include Kentucky, you can do some reading on this thread starting in the middle of page 2. SeanR, Ghost, and Woody expain how it was set up in the early days.

I think we did the Crawl in Harlan to try and get more member participation from the WV, Va, and North Carolina members. When you look at all of the states that make up the SEC, Harlan was kinda in the middle.

If you read that post I linked, they also mention Kentucky members can petition the MWC to become part of the SEC. I don't know if it would be worth it or not. I don't know how many members there are in KY.
