I wouldn't be betting on much for us down here at sea level, but not too far away.....
A WINTER STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE CASCADES...WITH 1 TO 2 FEET POSSIBLE BETWEEN 18Z FRIDAY AND 18Z SATURDAY.
...and then for Sunday/Monday...
SOME OF THE COLDEST AIR WILL FILTER in SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY...WITH DAYTIME HIGHS STRUGGLING TO REACH FREEZING AND LOWS IN THE UPPER TEENS AND LOW TWENTIES.
I hear rumors that Crystal is considering opening on Saturday. Monday's commute could be a mess with wet roads turning into frozen roads. Get your tow-ropes ready!

..TURNING EXTREMELY COLD WITH VERY LOW SNOW LEVELS THIS WEEKEND OVER SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON...
..VERY WINDY ESPECIALLY NEAR THE COAST FRIDAY WITH LARGE SWELLS POSSIBLE...
..HEAVY SNOW LIKELY OVER THE MOUNTAINS OF SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON LATE FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...
THE COLDEST AIR OF THE WINTER SEASON WILL BE SETTLING IN OVER SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON THIS WEEKEND...BRINGING VERY COLD TEMPERATURES TO THE REGION AND SNOW LEVELS POSSIBLY NEAR THE VALLEY FLOOR.
THE INITIAL SURGE OF COLD AIR WILL SPREAD INTO SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AND NORTHWEST OREGON FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING AS A STRONG COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH. WHILE AIR AHEAD OF THIS FRONT WILL BE RELATIVELY MILD...VERY COLD AIR BEHIND THIS FRONT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO DROP SNOW LEVELS QUITE LOW...NOT UNLIKE A SNOW EVENT THAT OCCURRED IN MID NOVEMBER OF 2003 WHICH DROPPED SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW IN THE PORTLAND METRO AREA. WHILE THIS KIND OF DETAIL IS NOT CERTAIN AT THIS POINT...THE SNOW LEVEL AT THE BACK EDGE OF THE COLD FRONT LATE FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT COULD TURN OUT TO BE QUITE LOW.
HEAVY SNOW IS LIKELY IN THE CASCADES FRIDAY AFTERNOON AS THE COLD FRONT MOVES IN...THEN CONTINUE HEAVY AT TIMES FRIDAY NIGHT AND A GOOD PART OF SATURDAY DUE TO STRONG ONSHORE FLOW BEHIND THE COLD FRONT. AMOUNTS IN THE CASCADES COULD REACH 1 TO 3 FEET THROUGH SATURDAY. RATHER STRONG WINDS MAY ACCOMPANY THE SNOW FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND FRIDAY NIGHT THAT COULD CAUSE AREAS OF BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.
SNOW WILL ALSO LIKELY DEVELOP IN THE COAST RANGE AND CASCADE FOOTHILLS FRIDAY NIGHT AND CONTINUE SATURDAY...WITH SNOW IN THE COAST RANGE PASSES BY LATE FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY. SNOW AMOUNTS IN THE COAST RANGE AND CASCADE FOOTHILLS THROUGH SATURDAY COULD REACH 6 TO 12 INCHES.
STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS WITH AND AHEAD OF THIS STRONG COLD FRONT WILL PUSH ONTO THE COAST FRIDAY AS A DEEP LOW PRESSURE CENTER MOVES ONSHORE NEAR THE NORTHWEST TIP OF WASHINGTON. WIND GUSTS COULD REACH 65 MPH OR HIGHER ESPECIALLY ALONG BEACHES AND HEADLANDS FRIDAY. THIS COULD CAUSE SEAS ALONG THE COAST TO BUILD OVER 20 FEET LATE FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE OVER THE HIGHER COAST RANGE AND THE CASCADES...WITH WINDY CONDITIONS POSSIBLE AT LOWER ELEVATIONS AS WELL.
THE COLD AIR WILL CONTINUE TO STREAM ONSHORE DURING THE DAY SATURDAY AND ANY SHOWERS WILL LIKELY DROP SNOW TO AROUND THE 500 TO 1000 FOOT ELEVATION. THE ONSHORE FLOW WILL LIKELY LIMIT THE POSSIBILITY OF THE SNOW REACHING THE VALLEY FLOOR DUE TO A SIGNIFICANT OVER WATER TRAJECTORY OF THE AIR...AS THE WATER TEMPERATURES OFF THE COAST REMAIN IN THE LOWER 50S.
IT APPEARS A REINFORCING SHOT OF ARCTIC AIR WILL THEN SPREAD THROUGH THE GORGE AND DOWN THROUGH WESTERN WASHINGTON INTO NORTHWEST OREGON SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY...PROBABLY NOT REACHING THE SOUTH WILLAMETTE VALLEY UNTIL LATER ON THE DAY SUNDAY AND ON SUNDAY NIGHT. THIS ARCTIC AIR WILL BRING THE COLDEST AIR TO THE REGION IN QUITE SOME TIME. AT THAT POINT...MINIMUM TEMPERATURES COULD FALL INTO THE TEENS WITH DAYTIME TEMPERATURES STRUGGLING TO REACH FREEZING. THE POSSIBILITY OF ANY SIGNIFICANT SNOW ONCE THE MAIN SHOT OF ARCTIC REACHES OUR AREA IS UNCERTAIN AT THIS TIME AS IT IS DEPENDENT ON WHETHER ANY ORGANIZED SYSTEMS WILL SPREAD OVER THE AREA...BUT THE POSSIBILITY DOES EXIST.
BE SURE TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS THIS WEEK IN ADVANCE OF THE ARRIVAL OF THE VERY COLD AIR...SUCH AS WRAPPING PIPES...COVERING FOUNDATION VENTS...DRAINING OUTDOOR WATER PIPES...AND PROTECTING VULNERABLE OUTDOOR PLANTS. USE CAUTION IF YOU PLAN TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE CASCADES LATE THIS WEEK...AS THE MOST SEVERE WINTER WEATHER OF THE SEASON IS POSSIBLE.

COLDEST WEATHER SINCE DECEMBER 1990 EXPECTED DURING THE WEEK AHEAD. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 3 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE FOR MUCH OF THE LOWLANDS ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. WIND CHILL VALUES SHOULD DROP TO 10 OR 15 BELOW ZERO.
and FTW...
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT WESTERN WASHINGTON SHOULD EXPERIENCE THE COLDEST WEATHER IN A COUPLE OF DECADES DURING THE WEEK AHEAD. PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR AN UNUSUALLY PROLONGED AND INTENSE PERIOD OF WINTER WEATHER.
