Cooling off a hot XJ

i have a 1990 Jeep XJ and like all XJs it runs hot but it runs really hot(this is my 3rd jeep) i want to try hood louvers or a in-hood fan. but i like to run in the mud(yes i clean the motor off to help with the heat) what would i have to do inorder to protect the electronics from water besides the cap and wires? -Keep Jeepin
