Looking to buy some sportier looking rims for my 97 XJ. Ive been reading that the Charger R/T rims are the Mercedes 5x4.53 bolt pattern instead of the Chrysler/AMC/Ford 5x4.5 pattern. Is this something I should be concerned about? This is a DD that i occasionally bracket/drag race and im looking for some lightweight, sporty looking rims, but what good would they do me if they managed to shear off the lug nuts (knock on wood).
What do yall think?
Specs of my jeep (to give you an idea of what you are dealing with)
97 XJ 2wd 2 dr
4.0L
AX-15
chry co 8.25
176,XXX on the clock
Any input is appreciated
Here is a pic of the style of rims im considering getting:

I think you will be ok. I am not totally sure but I think that the mustang rims that some are running, as well as late model ford rims in general, are that pattern. Since it is a lug centric setup I think as long as they all lock down it will be fine. I have been thinking about the same type of wheel setup.
You are talking about .03in total, but when you think about the relation of the lug to the center of the wheel it will be .015.

The pattern is 115mm, but people run them on XJs. Don't know how much of a difference .7mm really makes on a Jeep.

I don't have any issues with my charger rims. Plenty XJ guys run them, and I have yet to hear a single complaint. I'm the second guy using the second gen charger rims and I can think of three other guys using the first gen rims you want to buy. These things are a great value for a DD XJ (provided you don't do something stupid like powdercoat them :D ). My only problem was fitting my rims on the hub because the powdercoater was extra generous with the coating.
As far as lug patterns go, the spacing between 115x5 and 114.3x5 patterns is negligible at worst. In fact, I heard many people say both lug patterns are actually the same (just branded differently). So no worries.

You should be able to use any 5x114,3 rim out there. There's a fair amount of aftermarket wheels for European and Japanese cars with that bolt pattern. Pick your style.

Mopar Action has made a big deal about doing the reverse by putting Mustang rims on the Mercedes/Chrysler platform because of that. Basicly saying do not do it because the lugnuts don't seat where they need to on the rims and may not allow for proper wheel retention. That could possibly be ok for low performance DD stuff, but considering they way they build and as hard as they drive their project cars (well, it sounds like anything the staff owns really) that little difference could be dangerous. I drive mine hard enough at times that it's not worth risking mine or worse, somebody else's life('s).

Sheesh, you make it sound like the sky is falling. Look around... plenty XJ guys run these rims. Myself included, and I don't exactly drive my Jeep like a fluff.

Heres some pics of my jeep they are about 2 years old, its changed a lot (5% tint all around, even on the front door windows:shhh:) new pioneer radio, cleaned up all the trim so it isnt grey anymore, new exhaust (new cat backed by a thrush glasspack turned down under the cab:D) and various other changes i want to do (4.6L stroker), all in all, ive never seen another jeep like mine around, much less another stick cherokee, ive even had offers for people to buy it from me off the street! So i guess i must be doing something right.

This is the one urban yan was referring to I do believe...at this point I don't remember why I quadrupled it, but at the time apparently I really liked it.
