Im getting ready to start my stroker motor and trying to get a set of 4.2L rods. The guy at the parts store says that there are two different rods. He gave me the fordging numbers (31773120 or 3173207) because that is the only info he has on them. My question is which one is needed for an 88 4.2L crankshaft?

Just to clear the air....they are not forged, they are cast. The only INLINE jeep rods that were forged were the ones for the GM I-4.

Thats what I thought. He was confusing me. So the 82-90 rods (352 casting) will work with my 88 crank?

The guy is telling me that the casting # is 31773120 (71-81) and 3173207 (82-90). Will the connecting rods pre 82 work with an 88 crankshaft? Or do I need to order the pre 82 crankshaft and rods?
Thanks for all the help.

according to dyno, all are interchangable, so go with whatever is cheapest, because neither one is better than the other

Ok Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I can order the parts to continue my stroker build.
