View Full Version : Working on junk almost daily

The fiance is flying down to visit her folks next weekend, so Opie and I are going to be working on junk.

Probably going to be working Friday evening until late, Saturday whenever through late (although I'll need to be gone from like 1:00-3:00 for dog class), then Sunday whenever until like 3:00 or so, to go to the airport.

Shoot me or Opie a PM for the address, it's in West Sacramento, with a decent amount of room to crash if you're into that. Should be a pretty good weekend of junk.

if you notice anything in his garage, that looks suspiciously familiar... you know... like a tube bender or something... its probably yours... :shhh:

I wish I could stop and contribute to the junk left in Phil's garage but it will have to wait until next time.

So how do you plan to degrade the value of your junk now?

2 Sawzall batteries arent enough to have 0 down time...

Cutting torch, cutoff wheel, chop saw, and a 4lb 'Engineering Hammer' all made major progress.

Pics later when I get home from working on this damn school project!

18 Bud Lights were consumed.

Got 2 of 4 supports done for the drivers side, and then cleaned up for the weekend...

there is a lot of little stuff to cut off an XJ! :scottm:

An expected gain of 8.5" of rocker clearance as compared to what was there before.

I just want to apologize to Billy because he came on the day when we weren't using the gas axe and we weren't adding tube back, it was the boring prep-the-junk-for-tube day of hammering the pinch seam and figuring out what to trim back after the major cutting was done.

LOL at in-focus pictures of my junk! My car is fuzzy!

I should actually be getting some shop time in tomorrow, it's probably going to be really cold. Maybe I'll weld something.

Good luck, Cold?
It's snowing here, glad I got Combination gasket done before snow came.

P.S. I have no garage,

Not much that's really visible, but Liz starts classes and studying next week so I'm going to try to hit it hard nightly after work, and then she has Saturday classes stating February 28th.

What are you going to be using to skin the boat sides?
Opie was trying to get me to use 3/16" aluminum, but I'm leaning towards much thinner steel so I can just weld it on, and increase the weld area to the frame. Some plate gussets might do the same thing though? We'll see. The rear suspension project is currently more a priority.

I should be hitting it Saturday morning, probably get like 8 hours in if I'm lucky. I'll probably push the axle back under it.

Jimbo_1321

Links.

Which I do NOT suggest for full body rigs.

Mine is pushing it.

Edit: I'm going to be working on this most every Saturday, it's looking like, until it makes it to Lower Proving Grounds.

1/2" schedule 40 pipe will thread right into whatever size tube adapters I have. And, you can get lengths of it already threaded on each end at Lowe's. Saves much time over having to weld the tube adapters into the links.

I think for tonight the goal will be get the temporary lowers made up and start trimming the frame for clearance, start test flexing. Then can't get back to it until Saturday or Sunday probably, but then should be mocking up shock mounts.

It looks like it would be around the body line? Assuming there is a body of course.

This is on my list for this summer if I am home. Although I think Ill try some 1/8'' dimpled plate and some UHMW.
