I just bought an HTC Mogul PocketPC cellphone to replace my old clamshell phone.

It runs Windows Mobile 6. I've seen these phone customized to operate similarly to an iphone.

Anyone out there an expert or know an expert of modifying these things? I could probably figure out how to tweak on it, but it'd be easier to pay someone else to do it.

I can, it's just a skin and really bogs down the phones. Check out http://www.xda-developers.com/ they will have all the info you need.

Yeah, the more I read around I saw that it was really indicating that it would slow it down.

I still want to do the 6.1 update to it, gives the latest version and enables gps and sprint tv and such. Then who knows there might be some apps that I'd like to have.

You don't have any GPS hardware on that phone so you won't have much if any luck with GPS. Also 6.1 isn't much of an upgrade unless you use an exchange server and want security. What you really want is a stripped down HTC rom instead of the sprint rom.

According to a ton of crap I read on the web the Mogul does have GPS/Navigation hardware.

"Sprint and HTC will later today formally issue the third firmware update for the HTC Mogul (PPC-6800). The Mogul update enables both GPS navigation and EV-DO Rev A service. Contrary to incorrect reports from other members of the media, the update does indeed include GPS (gpsOne), and Sprint Navigation. This was confirmed to us directly minutes ago by Sprint."

I picked up a Mogul about 60 days ago and i love it.

Yes, it does have a on-board GPS chip that Windows 6.1 enables, and it works super-slick with the cheap gas locator and Trapster.

http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ is a nice site for freeware.

Enjoy,

Eric
