OK, here it is, 96 Sport 4.0 HO w/ac no power package. Symptoms are: intermittent stalling at start up and while driving, low idle at start up @ around 500rpms.

Changed: Crank position sensor - Cam potion sensor - Fule filter changed & fuel pressure seems OK - tuned up, distributor replaced along with coil - checked and cleand Map sensor and TB. IAC seems to be operating OK.

This happens without rhyme or reason...any suggestions...my bud has no hair left.

Although this may seem to simple too work, check your battery. I had an XJ in our shop with the same symptoms, and the problem was a dead battery cell.

A new battery was installed, and voila, no more problem.

Other symptoms experienced were an intermittent and momentary loss of radio power, and intermittent, subtle flickering of the head and tail lamps.

Good luck, and let us know what the solution is.

TPS No, not yet. (although seems to be heading that way) Also, no high rev. (1200 rpm)at start up typical of the 4.0

Wires, yes during tune up.

Battery, tested good.

Just very frustrating chasing this one down.

maybe the fuel pressure regulator? sometimes they fail to keep the pressure up. does it turn over a time or two before it starts? no obd-II codes showing?
