Fixing steering column lock mechanism.

How do you fix/disable the parking locking mechanism on the steering column?

Mine jammed this morning and the locking cylinder broke so I can't start it.

I know you have to remove the steering wheel, remove the tun signal indicator cam assembly so get to the lock cylinder, but how can I disable the "park" locking mechanism?

Or should I just get a new jeep?

It's an 85 w/automatic transmission.

I have worked on a few similar steering column problems, and it has been my experience that the most reliable, quickest, and safe way to fix that type of problem is to swap out the whole steering column...can probably get one at the junk yard for $50 to $75.
