BOGG-SAUCE!!

Get in the 97 xj.
Key in the ignition.
Fire it up.
Drive it 100 feet or so, give it gas and it boggs out,
I give it more gas and it all the sudden comes back to life but with a strange thunk from the engine compartment.
Does it almost everytime if the engine hasnt ben running for a few hours.

Sounds like it backfired thru the throttle body. Might be time to de-carbon the top end, might also want to throw a meter on the TPS and see if it's smooth throughout it's whole range...might be a dead spot in there.
