Let me preface this rant by saying that this was the 4th time I have ordered from Rusty's and every prior instance I got the right part on time. However, this instance was so bad, I will never order from them again. I am only writing about it now because I finally have the parts. If I had ordered through e-bay I could post feedback. Since I didn't, this is where I am posting my opinion.

5 months ago (early April) I ordered gears and truetracs for my 8.25/d30 from Rusty. Never received a receipt or tracking number, despite calling numerous times. I quickly received the gears and install kits. No diffs.

Called Rusty. He says UPS lost the package. Wait 2 weeks for the "investigation". 2 more weeks for Rusty to get reimbursed. He says he shipped them, no tracking number.

Wait a week, call back, get a tracking number that says "billing information received, contact shipper". Call UPS, they say no shipment was ever sent. Call Rusty, he says his the shipment was being drop shipped by his supplier, told to wait.

Two weeks later Rusty is telling me he doesn't trust his supplier and the diffs would be drop shipped from another supplier.

Two weeks later Rusty tells me he doesn't trust his second supplier and the diffs would be shipped by him. Gives me a tracking number. Package actually shipped this time. Takes a week to get to me.

4 months after ordering a package containing ONE diff arrives. It is a detroit locker not a truetrac (see post http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95685 ). At this point I have almost given up. I call Rusty and tell him I am keeping the detroit because I don't trust him to ship the truetrac if I return it and where is my other diff?

Rusty tells me it must be stuck at the border and gives me a second tracking number. I specifically ask if the second diff was ever shipped and he reassures me that it was. 2 hours later the tracking number indicates the second package was just shipped. A week later I receive the rear truetrac.

Through it all Rusty was reasonable on the phone. Always seemed concerned and willing to do whatever it took to make the situation right. But there was no follow through. I know that I was out right lied to numerous times. I think the talk is why some people have such good experiences with them.

I am writing this to warn people of my experience. 3 of the 4 times I ordered from them were filled in a timely fashion with the correct parts. But the 4th time was a disaster, and I get the impression I am not the only one:

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69598
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81391

I know that every person and business makes mistakes, no one is perfect. But this was just plain nuts. I will never order from them again and hope that anyone that does order from them doesn't have to go through what I did.

I suppose you are going to tell me that 5 months is a reasonable amount of time to wait for $1250US worth of off the shelf parts to be delivered. No? Then maybe my position is justified.

Thank you for putting the post in the correct area.

I never had an issue with the shipping. Crossing the border could not have gone smoother. Getting Rusty to ship the product was a huge headache.

Their wasn't a company in Canada that sells those parts? Seems like it would cost more to buy it from the good ole US of A than it would in Maple leaf country. :dunno:

For the record, in 30 years of doing cross border shipping I have never had a problem with "the border".

USPS/CanPost just passes it through after looking at it. The couriers do the same after they charge you a $40-$75 "customs processing fee".

Doesn't help you Dennis since Kap is way too far away but I will normally have the parts shipped to upstate NY and self import if USPS can not be used (size/vendor restrictions).

And, yes, typically it is cheaper to ship from a US vendor than a local distributor, especially if you are not in a large urban area where the vendor moves enough product to cut the wholesale price (dealer incentives, etc.).

oddly enough, UPS lost stuff being sent from rusty to me also, samr part, 3 times. so he switched to FEDEX, nope didn't get it either. most of the time his "tracking number" was just some number at UPS # that indicated they would eventualy pick up a part. i had to modify the skids to fit and when i picked up a rusty's drop crossmember i noticed none of the holes on his member lined up with his skids. i never had to use the crossmember, i went sye. and in fairness, the skids worked very well. but i have to agree, service was poor. i'd much rather be told there is a problem and the part will be late than, "UPS lost it". nuff said on a whipped horse....

rustys just does a mass shipment and uses a thrid party tracking system, basically the trailer backs up to the place and they load all the crap in and it leaves and the tracking number is left to quantum view, in my case im one state away so by the time the third party gets ahold of the number and the package is scanned into the system its already on a truck headed for my door, their system does suck tho, i had an axleshaft come like 4 days late when i needed it to road trip the heep.

on another note they said they'd call me back about the bent bushing but they never did, hmmmm....................
