BALL JOINT REPLACEMENTS SUCKS!!!!!!!!! I hate working on those damn things. Especially since it turned out that both my unibearings were shot too . Well one was griding and the other one separated. The separation is kind of pissing me off as I always torque the nut on the stub to the proper spec (AFAIK at least as I am using the super accurate method of my weight jumping up and down at the end of a breaker bar that's about 2 feet long ;) ).

Anyways...... now I gotta go find something to help me cure my cold that I got from enjoying nature at 23F.

Why'd you say it twice? ;)

Ball joint jobs ain't no thing when you know the tricks ;)

That HF ball joint tool works well. When it refuses to work just hit the end of the press with a hammer in the direction you're pushing; the hitting doesn't really drive it out but the vibration does wonders. (As in when I was doing the Chief's joints the lowers wouldn't come out with 300psi impact. Hit it with the hammer while hitting it was a mere 120psi impact and they came out like butter.

It's not that. I got all the tools and know all the tricks. Problem is that it's boring, time consuming and irritating if it was done just over a year ago (or maybe about 2?). I'd rather be building something new!

Yep, especially when you bent a C-Frame press doing the job. Anyone need a bent Harbour Freight press? Should still be useful for U-joints (I already have a press for U-Joints, and I got an OTC to replace the HF for ball joint work...)

I also had one unit bearing separate when I pulled it apart - so I just changed them both (it's my wife's truck.) Pretty much ended up just overhauling the entire front end anyhow - I've still got some bushings to do, but it's minor work now...

Useful trick for nuts at very high installation torques (like these and the Pitman shaft nut?) Coat with never-seez, and torque to half of the value. Rather more accurate than using your body weight on a lever you're not sure about... Does it work? I've been doing it for years without a failure!

Nope, the set I pulled out was a non spicer one: it was being greased very often, unfortunatly it turned out to be an expensive POS.

Cracker, I don't feel you have enough experience to ask this question.

Come back later.:spin1:

I see you have been talking to Goat again :laugh2:

Come on now. My negative experience with Garry's million years of experience are still more than yours and Pauls put together :lecture:

I am still confused about the front leaf thing he is doing though
