So about an hr ago me and the g/f were sitting in our living room when we see about 10-15 black High school kids making loud noises... we look out the window just in time to see one of them jumping in the g/fs sunroof of her car and pulling out her purse. I bolt out the door and run after him through the middle of a busy street reaching for the purse the whole time. He hits me once but at the time my focus was to get the purse back. Finally grab the purse and start walking back towards my house (by this time there are about 10 cars stopped watching) when all of a sudden I get punched in the back of the head and neck. I drop to the ground and see feet coming from everywhere... about 20-30 seconds goes by before my lil big brother comes out and starts helping me...
Good thing is I got the purse back! Im a lil banged up but I looked like the hero trying to get it back.
Called the Police... they didnt do crap! They didnt even wanna file a report!
If I ever see them again all I know is Ive got an XJ in 4 low calling their names!!
Where was the BSC?!?!?! haha

Nice recovery, but preventable. This is why you shouldn't leave anything potentially valuable sitting in plain sight, especially if it's not secured (and why I don't understand purses for women - what's wrong with pockets?)
Nowhere is safe, unless you make it so. Both self-defense and security are more a matter of mind-set and weltschanauug(sp? My German is a bit rusty...) than anything else.

Yeah, I told her to bring it in!
It was way preventable!
Kinda sucks cuz ive had my share of run ins with the law and didnt wanna do anything thats borderline illegal (most of them were underage)
My Jeep sits with its windows down all night... never had anything stolen from it. Then again I never leave ANYTHING in it.

Why the hell did you turn your back on them?
Nice job getting the purse back, but why the hell was it left in the car in the
first place?
May I make a suggestion?
Move to Borrego Springs, crime is still illegal out here!
:D

I hear you.
I recall stopping of on the edge of East Palo Alto a couple of years ago at a 7-11 to grab a soda (it had been a long day doing volunteer work in a park. Hot day - drank about eight gallons of water, urinated twice. The rest came out through my skin...) I used to live there, so I knew the area (and I knew my truck.)
Left the window down and the keys in, went in and grabbed a big bottle of Pepsi.
Came out to see some Latino kid sitting in my driver's seat, cranking on the key for all he's worth. I walk up, twist the top off of my soda, and take a swig.
"Having trouble?"
"Yeah, I can't get my truck started."
"I can tell you why you can't start your truck."
"Really?"
"Yeah." I reach in the open window and grab a fistful of his shirt. "That's because it's mine, you little arsehole!" Yanked him out the open window and airmailed him at a nearby fence. I didn't mean to hit the fence with his head, but I didn't really mean not to, either. I'd also forgotten there was a cinderblock wall behind the wooden fence. Oops.
I then got in, started my rig, and drove home.
That starter cutoff wasn't a bad idea, and neither was the pressure switch under the seat (at a guess, I'd say he was about forty pounds light to trip the thing...) You can crank my key to START all you want, and the only effect would be to note that power cuts off to everything.
Don't bother trying to hotwire it, either. I went through and took care of that - all of the wires going to the ignition switch are now 12AWG black. Like I'm going to give you any clues there... The cutoffs that you can see look like OEM switches for other things, so no help there either.
You wanna swipe my ride? Bring a tow truck, or you'd better be either a damned good mechanic (to get it started using your memory - a manual takes too long) or bring a gun and be a good shot (for when I catch you.)
I go to a city known for dips (pickpockets,) I carry two wallets, and minimum ID and cash will be either in my hand in a front pocket, or somewhere you're not going to be able to reach. Both wallets are phonies, and each has a note inside that says "Does it suck to be stupid?"
Yeah, I'm a fun guy if you get on my good side. I have fun with you if you get on my bad side...

High school kids huh? Prepare for revenge. Get a security camera and security lights quick and point it outside. You'll want some evidence of who do it. They'll come back. I hope eggs and TP aren't on sale at the grocery store. More importantly, I hope that's the LEAST they do.

No trouble at all - the contact housings tend to have the cavities marked, and you can still key on the locations from the ignition switch - you just need a wiring diagram handy. A proper one - that shows the outline of the connector housing (like an FSM.)
It's a little trick I devised some years ago, and it's worked well. I've actually caught a couple of kids under various dashboards looking at the wiring and scratching their heads - right before they flew headfirst into a convenient solid object. (Why hit someone when there's a wall you can toss them into? Saves wear on the knuckles...)
