View Full Version : Research Paper Q for College Students

I have always wondered about the authenticity and legality of these sites that you buy research papers and essays from. The end of the semester is approaching and I have a lot of papers due. I was thinking of possibly buying one of these papers to take some of the workload off of me. However, I certainly don't want to put myself in the position of possibly getting in trouble for plagiarism. That would be the end of my college career most likely. Has anyone on here done this before or know anyone who has? If so, did they get in any kind of trouble for this? Anyone heard of any horror stories about doing this? My teacher has already told us that she would use a website like Turnitin if there was any questionable material in our paper...

If your prof is saying that they are going to run it through turnitin or something similar, it will get caught. I would just buck up and write the papers. Its what I am doing (along with everybody else). Also if you have written papers before, your prof will probably see the differences of the paper you wrote versus the paper you boght.

The paper that I would be buying though would be custom. As far as I know it would not be posted on the internet. The topic of my paper is relatively new, as in the last 3 months. There is not a wealth of information on the subject at all. My paper is for World Politics and we have not written any kind of papers so far. This is the only one.

wow... dude go to school, learn something, do your freakin work.
i cant believe you would even post this thread, with as paranoid as you are. what if your prrofessor has a jeep and just didnt tell you? you just admitted to wanting to cheat on your college exams on a nationally recognized forum, in full view of the public.
sweet dreams :D

You enrolled in the classes and the work load, every college student goes through it and it sucks for everyone.
Funny you are so worried about if the writer of the purchased paper is guilty of plagiarism and not the fact that you would be in turn plagiarizing.
plagiarize
verb (plagiariz, ing)
(transitive or intransitive) To use, and pass off as one's own, someone else's writing/speech.
Sometimes it's hard to do but find an aspect of the subject that you enjoy...

I thought about it when I was in college too, but I never got further than that. Ultimately I decided I'd rather be a person of character and integrity.
Even when I felt overwhelmed I was able to do better than I expected. Start now if time is an issue.

Dude come on, you know the black helicopters are circling. I'm a sophmore in college and I have learned that I should only take 1 (or 2) hard classes per quarter that require writing a final paper. You should know that by know, take some cush classes and work the system. :D

You expect the paper to be "custom" and not found elsewhere on the internet?
Let me get this straight. You're going to go to someone whose business is helping people to cheat, and you expect him to be honest?
Save your money and go for something more reliable, like penis enlargement pills, or those guys who email you and promise to refinAn3 your hmoe mort5AGE.

Ok I am convinced. I'm not buying any paper, it isn't worth the consequences. I'm just going to work my ass off instead. Thanks for the input everyone. I hope I can write this thing in 2 days haha.

Thank god I have a prescription for it. I really hate taking it though and try to avoid it at all costs. No one knows yet what kind of problems this shit may cause people later on down the road. I'm convinced they will find that it causes heart problems. It's basically legal cocaine! It makes me feel completely cracked out, not to mention that horrible feeling you get sometimes when your coming down. Oh yeah, you can suck down 3-4 cigarettes in a row when your on the adderall high. Did I mention I hate taking that shit?

Aderol saves my ass during exam, finals week. I was diagnosed with a.d.d. twice and it does wonders when you only take it when you need it. Im a sophomore in college as well and you will be f'd if you got caught buying papers, we would get kicked outta school here. Whats the paper, how long, topic? Start out with a simple outline and expand on that. Thats what works best for me as well as getting out of my house and going somewhere quiet like the library.

Basically I was thinking of buying a research paper off the internet and taking the easy way out. I was going to take someone else's work and pass it off as my own instead of working my ass off. I decided against it...I'm just going to stay up for the next 2 days straight, use my bs skills, and use words that I hardly use on a day to day basis...

How long does it have to be? That doesn't seem like a topic that will be all that difficult if you are political science major. There should be tons of information out there considering its kind of a hot button topic at the moment. Your schools library should have some type of online system that you can search through all kinds of printed media (magazine, newspaper articles, etc). Feel to post up if you want help editing your paper.

Yeah I know, that's what makes this paper so difficult. Lotta in's, out's, and whathaveyou's. I'm pretty knowledgeable on the topic. We have this thing called a Press Dossier that we have to turn in with the paper. We chose a current world event at the beginning of the semester that we had to keep up with weekly. Fortunately, I didn't get behind on that. I happened to choose the Russia and Georgia conflict. Shouldn't be too hard to right the paper. I have an A in the class so if I don't do well on the paper I won't be in danger of failing. She isn't an English teacher. She likes me since I'm about the only one who enjoys the class and actually talk to her about politics outside of class. Hopefully that will work in my favor...

Thanks man, I already got all the info that I need though. My best friend is an english teacher and is going to help me with the paper. He's even going to run it through Turnitin just to make sure I don't have any problems. I'm just freaking out right now because I've waited until the last minute to do this. Plus, this is my first semester back in 2 years and I haven't written a paper in quite a while. I think everything will be fine though.

dude, papers are not that hard. I just graduated in may. Wrote 48 pages for 3 different papers in about a weak and a half. Still had time to drink. My trick was to always be thinking about them and refining my ideas for the week or two ahead of time. That way when I would sit down to write them(usually the day before they were due) the words would just fall out.

My mom was my high school English teacher, so trust me on this.
Start with a descriptive human interest story - talking about how the start of the war affected a person or family in Georgia.
Your conclusion at the end of the essay should talk about how the person/family ended up after the war and what the future holds for them.
The main body of the essay can include blah-blah facts that no one cares about, but it should also be smattered with references to how the occupation affected the innocent public.
Trust me - your teacher should eat this stuff up.

As a former English teacher, you're doing the right thing by doing it yourself. I failed several students per semester for plagiarism, and many of them claimed they thought they were using "custom" papers. It never even remotely bothered me to fail them--just stapled a copy of my proof of cheating to the student's paper and made photocopies of the whole deal for the student's permanent file.

Georgia vs. Russia.
Here are a couple of opinion pieces on the subject that you might find useful:
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Central_Asia/JH19Ag04.html
"The fact is that all Russian politicians are clever. The stupid ones are all dead. By contrast, America in its complacency promotes dullards. A deadly miscommunication arises from this asymmetry. The Russians cannot believe that the Americans are as stupid as they look, and conclude that Washington wants to destroy them. That is what the informed Russian public believes, judging from last week's postings on web forums, including this writer's own (http://spengler.atimes.net/).
These perceptions are dangerous because they do not stem from propaganda, but from a difference in existential vantage point. "
Here's another from the same site:
"Putin for president"
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Central_Asia/JH13Ag01.html
I get a news letter from a John Mauldin. He also sends out pieces by others and has touched on the motivations of Russia and the Georgia conflict a couple of times. He may ask for your email address. As far as I can tell I've never received any mail besides the newsletters (which are free) - i.e., no spam.
This one talks about the larger context of Russia / US relations, their motivations and the places where they can make trouble for us

Adderall is "mixed amphetamine salts"?!? No, thank you!
I'll get my speed buzz the old-fashioned way - I'll just drink three pots of coffee. Whether it's the caffeine that keeps you up, or the discomfort of a constantly-full bladder is moot - you'll get plenty of exercise and you'll be able to stay up and get your paper done! An amphetimine crash is ugly...
As far as the basic problem, it seems that it's a time management issue more than anything else. How long have you had to get this done? Don't worry - you'll learn more having done it yourself than buying a paper online (and more about time management than the topic at hand. My wife used to work in law firms, and saw this sort of thing done by attorneys all the time - stay up until 0300 the day before something needs to be filed, instead of chewing away at it for the six to eight weeks you had knowing you needed to get it done. I do'nt get it, either...)

I'm on page 3 right now and it looks as though I'm only going to make it to page 4. She asked that we right 5, but I'm running out of information. Since you are a former English teacher, should I just start bs'ing as much as I can to stretch to 5 pages or just stick to relevant information? I'm not someone who bs's, I like to stick to the facts...

I'm not an English teacher, just a student trying to graduate in a couple of weeks. While high-quality BS can go a long way, just writing more words for the sake of making the paper will tend to get you a lower grade. Try this:
Make a (digital)copy of the paper. Delete your intro and discussion/conclusion sections. Does what you have left stand up reasonably well on it's own? Good.
Now read it again real quickly. Place your cursor at the very beginning and without looking @ the first version, write a new intro. Write a new conclusion.
A good analysis with some high-quality bs in the intro/discussion/conclusion sections should make up for a slight lack in word/page count.
I've found that if you get right into the paper and let it shape your intro, you will have a more complete and cohesive paper. People tend to let their intro define the rest of the paper. Writing the intro later removes this barrier and let's you write what you need to.

It largely depends on the teacher. I was known for being pretty strict regarding the minimum requirements for assignments. If a student simply met the minimum requirements it was a C--even if it was somewhat half-assed work. Quality and good reasoning improved it from there. That may not sound like tough grading to some, but considering that at least twenty-five percent of students couldn't even meet the minimum requirements on most assignments, I thought that was very fair.
I wouldn't try to BS your way to five pages, but if you honestly can't make it to the minimum, really make sure you have a decent foundation for the paper. By that I mean--does your paper have a solid introduction, which clearly states the points to be made; does it have a body, which covers exactly what the intro. said it would, supported by facts, when called for, or opinions, if necessary; and does it have a conclusion, which restates the basic premise(s) of the intro.? If so, I would think you may be okay as long as what you do have is decent.
I understand (and actually appreciate hearing) that you don't just want to fill the space. My stance on grading was that clear, concise, quality work was always better than tons of crap. A great book, if you're so inclined, is The Elements of Style by Strunk and White. It's the best book available on writing clearly.
Good luck.

I remember pulling all nighters my freshman year to make sure my portfolio was ready for my writing class.
I don't think I've ever felt so high as I did that night before it was due; a pot of coffee, a few 20oz mountain dews mixed with redbull, and a clove cigarette every hour.
The next day I re-read some of the papers and couldn't believe how shitty I wrote stuff.

Excellent suggestion! I wore out a copy of that book in high school, and one more each time I went through college (making for a total of three.) I'm sure I've replaced it yet again, I'm just not sure if it's out here with me, or in storage with my OED (that I had shipped out from London while I was in HS...)
The Elements of Style should be on every student's desk - past his freshman year of HS - right next to his dictionary (Webster's or OED preferred) and his copy of Roget's Thesaurus and Bartlett's Quotations.

Man up and write them yourself. The point of college is to learn. You learn by doing. Having somebody else write your papers wastes you time and money. If college was supposeed to be easy, it would be like public high school: diplomas printed on toilet paper and handed out to anyone with a pulse. Seriously, high school graduates thet can't read, write, or speak English and can't count past ten because their shoes are on are a disgrace to this country. Make your education worthwhile and keep yourself out of trouble. You'll feel better about a B or C that you earned than an A that you bought.:us:
