I found this add on Craigslist and the guy is not near so I don't want to travel all that way to look get a shitty truck.

He has a 1989 black Comanche 2wd with the 4.0/aw4. I talked to him and he is willing to trade so I wanted to trade my 1993 ZJ with the 5.2 4wd etc.(limited edition)

The only advantage he has is gas mileage.

Any way you cut it, he would be getting a MUCH better deal since his MJ doesn't have 4wd, and it isn't power, has steel rims and is KBB'd somewhere between $700 and $1300 LESS than mine. He says he wont give me any boot, and he also says that it has an idle problem and cuts out a little. claims it's the IAC.

He also claims that the shifter being on the floor is rare and that most are on the column. Actually he makes it out like the thing is 1 of 10 ever made or something.

What should I do about this? I plan on taking out my speakers and putting in shitty stock ones. His head unit is nicer anyhow. Thats really where he claims all the value of the truck is the $500 head unit, $700 alarm, and it has 2 10's and a 400 watt amp.

I really want the MJ but dammit, my Jeep is worth more, and he wont throw me any boot. He claims his is worth $2200, and doesnt take KBB values.

What would you do?

If someone could CarFax the VIN and PM or email me the results then I would be happy to help them out anyway I can.

He sounded like he was making it up as he went, so who knows.

Thanks in advance guys

You don't need a cafax to know he is getting a much better deal, walk away.

The VIN as you type it doesn't work out correctly....

1J7FT2610kl1417308..isn't a valid Jeep VIN

1-US build
J-Jeep
7..??? Should be a T for truck
F... Should be an H,M or B for the engine
T... 4 speed Auto Floor shift with a full-time transfer case
26..??? Should be either a 64 or 66 for a 2wd 64 is short bed, 66 is long
1... Custom order model.. starts as a base model
0...Check digit
K..1989
l...??? Should be a T for Toledo plant.
417308... Serial number assigned at manufacture.

Take the things in Carfax with a grain of salt. I have a Comanche that I bought from its orignal buyer. I Carfaxed it and had quite a few negative hits on it... Several of them occured when the PO owned it and could prove that the truck couldnt have been involved in them. Some of them even occured while I owned the truck and absolutely were not true.

I know CarFax isn't all they make it out to be, but I would still like to know. If someone had unlimited usage such as a used car dealer I figured they might run it and we might find something interesting out.

I ran the number on a "jeep VIN decoder" I found online and it came out legit. Maybe there was something lost in translation on yours.

I don't understand your question. He claims it's a fancy ass alarm system with remote start and etcetera. I think he's pumping value into a $1000 vehicle.

I know you lost 95% of the value of the things you add on to your vehicle. Obviously he doesn't. He claims to have had fox body mustangs with low KBB and high value. I call BS

If anyone is in the Chattanooga TN area and wants to look at it I can PM you his address and number. I think I'm gonna pass. As cool as a Comanche would be, I just dont think it's time for mine to come yet. I just can't take that kinda loss. Mine isn't perfect but it's worth more than that.

I WAS thinking about keeping my speakers, wheels and tires and shitty brushguard I have but it still wouldnt even out. oh well I guess

There was a guy selling an MJ in Rossville, and it had a $700 alarm and sound system.

He is in Rossville, yes. He was quite unpleasant to talk to on the phone and just repeated the same things.

I always hear people saying this. :dunno:

In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a column shift. All of the auto MJs I've seen, including mine, has a floor shifter.

It doesn't sound like it is worth the hassle to me, I'd walk away and keep looking.JMHO.

That's a bunch of bull, you've got to look past the part of wanting a MJ, you'd be getting HOSED bad. It's really not even remotely worth it.

Sell the ZJ then use the cash to buy a rig. It's easier to bargain with $$ than a vehicle.

Yeah dude, he obviously is a douchebag and is trying to rip you off. Why trade you ZJ for a 2wd manche that you'll have to convert to 4wd. Just sell the ZJ and buy a Manche that already lifted!:D

Considering my vin translation came from factory info, I doubt it....

Well either way I have opted against the trade and I appreciate your help. Thanks everyone.....maybe next time.

I did put my Jeep up for trade cause all this trade talk make me realize I want something different and new and frankly I'd rather have an XJ/MJ than a ZJ.

Column shift is the shizzle, more room for radios in the center console :D I hate my floor shifter. That's valuable radio space!

WTF head unit is worth $500? Did you look how much they go for on E-Bay to see if it's really worth that? And WTF alarm is $700?????!!!! You can get a badass alarm with 2 way paging and remote start for like $200 at Frys. Does it have lojack or something?

My buddy ran a carfax on his car and found out it was off-rental. Sucked to be him. Carfax isn't infallible, but I wouldn't buy a vehicle without checking it first.
