Out of curiousity........anyone know what front-axle Ford Explorers come with? I think its a D35....but not positive.I know its crappy IFS.

Most, if not all Explorers are IFS D35's. There are some D28's as well but I think they were only in the Rangers.

High pinion Dana 28's were only in earlier Rangers and Bronco II's. Explorers and Rangers have (or got) High pinion Dana 35 axles. IFS isn't quite the right way to describe them though, they are twin traction beam axles, they're more of a middle ground between solid axles and IFS (kinda like IFS with long arms :D ).

I do not know if this information is current as of the new body style Explorers / Rangers, it is possible that they went the route of true IFS and neglected to tell me ;)

The newer ones have more of a true IFS with A-Arms and all.I knew that the `90 and up Ranger`s came with D35`s or hybrid D35`s which were kinda like modded D28`s.Just wasn`t positive if the Exploders came with a D35 up front or not......

The TTB was dropped after the initial boxy Explorer body style.

IIRC it was 95-96 the TTB was dropped.

On the plus side, "easy" to convert to solid axle before the transition to real IFS.

huh. so thats what it is. moms work truck, '96 f150. i had a wtf moment the first time i looked under it.
