Rear body chop question

I am getting ready to do a rear body chop behind the rear door. I have ready many threads and searched but still have a few questions. Ive saw several where the cab back of an MJ was used and some that looked as if they used the rear hatch. Is there an advantage to one or the other and does anyone have any pics of one using a rear hatch mod.

One word.

Cage.

No matter what you do for the back.....if you cut it....cage it.

Rear hatch as in the hatch off of a XJ, or a tailgate off of the MJ?



97+ XJs have the metal hatch, were as the 96 and below use fiberglass. Something to keep in mind.

I went with the 97+ Hatch.

Def do stiffners before chop.

I wish I would have taken a little more time on doing the chop.

I have a MJ tailgate on my XJ if your xjs a 97+ its close to a bolt on set up. If not it would be a real pain in the ass.
If you go with a hatch get a new modle hatch that is steel and you can mock it up, and weld it in place.

Mine is an 89 XJ. When using an mj cab is there still any room for the back seat? Reichy any pics of your stiffeners?

There just tnt stiffners.
