the fuel gadge on my 87 cheif reads backwords i.e. if its full it says empty if its empty it says full

Holy crap.. I was just about to post about this. My '87 does the same thing. It was that way when I bought it.

It has something to do with the wrong sending unit. This has been covered several times...if you search you should find some good solutions.

This is good news.. it means my fuel pump has been replaced. I was thinking that maybe the wire on the sending unit was on the wrong contact.. sometimes sending units have two contacts you can put the "read" wire on.
