Can I swap a '97+ liftgate onto an older XJ?

Anyone know if you can replace the fiberglas liftgate with a metal one, fitment wise?

I do't think so. The Fiberglass hatch has external hinges with the steel havig internal ones. The tail lights are different as well. I don't know what the difference is for the latch or seal.
