Ahhhhh yes.......job security for me. :yelclap:

I don't want to discount what your nephew tells you but we don't know the rest of the story. As a teacher, I assure you, there are tons of variables going on inside the classroom. Please don't think that I am suggesting that every teacher has the best intentions or deserves to be in any classroom. I work with educators every day that make me want to scream because of the shotty way they handle their students. My suggestion would be to go in and discuss the situation and see what the circumstances are. Some schools are strange with who they will speak with about the childs educational information (my school would not talk with an uncle unless we received written documentation stating we could). I applaude you though. There are loads of parents that could care less about their childs education or their general well-being while at school...let alone uncles. Do it nicely...you don't want to make waves and make things at school any rougher for him. I know plenty of teachers that would pull that crap...."Yes you can go to the bathroom...I really don't wanna talk to your uncle AGAIN." Good luck.

I am guessing the teacher has very good intentions of why he/she will not allow children to leave the classroom during class. Perhaps this said nephew asks many times during the day and said teacher is trying to teach him to go during recess or break. Your nephew could be asking right after a break or recess and should have done it then. Having a degree in education I have many times declined a child a potty break becuase they should have done it during the break times. In a well orginized classroom all children know when they are allowed to go. My wife just told me one of her first graders shat his pants last year becuase she would not let him go. (She did not know he had diarrhea).

My 8 year old son (almost 9) just entered the 4th grade last month and this is when our school system tries to instill proper time management on our kids. They are to use the restroom during their recesses unless it's an absolute emergency otherwise they are docked points. At first I thought it was lame but they are trying to get these kids to learn when to do stuff like that, which is on their own time and not to interupt their class. I don't think it's too horrible.

"My wife just told me one of her first graders shat his pants last year becuase she would not let him go."

Slightly off topic, my Mother is a high school Enlgish teacher with whom I had a lenghty discussion as to whether shat is the past tense of shit. Being a slang term it does not truely follow under any grammatical guidelines, but she does agree with me, and not my Fiancee, that shat is the closest we can expect to come to the past tense of shit. Completely pointless I realize, but I found humor in it.

just messin with ya. 3 more posts! get your ass to the den and post up some pics!

Being a teacher, you are responsible for each and everykid. and if you let anybody leave as they wished, it would be very stressful and worrysome. I remember we were not allowed out either and most teachers said if it was an extreme emergency just go, don't ask, but if your caught doing something else, DETENTION!!!

My old gr.10 science teacher wouldn't let anyone go in her block.
Her excuse was, and I quote, "You just had lunch! you should NOT have to go, that's what lunch is for!"
God, I hated her, I mean, it's not like I can control when I have to drain it can I? and who actually used lunch for that, I mean come on. And what pissed me off the most was, even if you waited like an hour after lunch she would still use the same stupid excuse. I reeaaaallly hated her.

While it is a slang term, it can be traced back at least to 12th century Latin (with possible Proto-Germanic roots). Our word, shit, is an Anglicized form of the old-world versions and is why there is no "correct" way to form its tense. If I had to pick, though, I would agree with shat even though common usage would suggest shitted.

To keep on topic, however, I taught middle and high school English for seven years, and I wouldn't allow kids to go to the restroom sometimes. It wasn't to be a prick; by the time they get to the grades I taught, most kids can hold it.

For some odd reason, I can't resist posting here.

In 4th grade, I asked to go 3 times and was denied 3 times. Holding it finally made me so sick, I puked all over the place. He let me go to the restroom afterwards.

It actually doesn't come from Latin, though I'm sure there are Latin cognates for it. It comes to us originally from Old High Germanic ski:zan, then through Middle Low Germanic, Old English, and Middle English. As to the past tense, personally, I use 'shit', the same as the present, based on analogy with hit (though I see how you could interpret 'shat' as an analogy to sit).

tell your little bro to hold it for a while and ask. when she tells him no he should let loose and evacuate every hole. that will teach his teacher a lesson.

if i were a teacher i would not want that. just let the boy go!

Yeah that was sound advice. Way to lead him towards potential behavior interventions at a ripe age.

A teacher repeatedly told me I was not allowed to leave the classroom to use the bathroom when I was in middle school, so I took a piss in the garbage can instead.
