Does anyone out there have any experience with those Roomba vacuum cleaners?

I am thinking of getting one for the upstairs, 3 bedrooms, all carpet and the bathroom. Thing is we have 3 cats (wifes a vet tech... I am fighting a losing battle, 2 dogs too) and the carpet gets rather full of hair from the cats... I thought I may get the roomba, but am not sure if it will move from room to room without falling down the stairs.

I have looked on the site, but am still unsure if its what I need, or just leave it for the wife during her weekly OCD cleanups.

Thanks for your thoughts.

They come with and you can get extra little sensor things that you can place on the floor at it's boundaries say you dont want it in a certain room or for instance going down the stairs you put these there and set up a area for it to keep. My mom has one and she likes it.

I don’t vacuum. Well, I only vacuum about once every six months (maybe). I’m a guy, what do you want? So I bought a Roomba 560 and it works great.

This thing is stout and is not a toy. I have it scheduled to run 3 days a week. I have one dog and it has no problem keeping the floor clean. Every once in a while it finds a spot to get stuck, like under my low couch (which I have since blocked) but after watching where it gets stuck and “fixing” those areas it hasn’t gotten stuck in months. It cleans as advertised. Goes from rug to floor with no problems. It will not fall off stairs. It will automatically travel from room to room. It doesn’t get tangled up in tassels on the rugs, though I’ve had it ingest a sock. In that case it just automatically shut down and told me to clear the brushes (yes, it talks to you). The only drawback is you have to clean it. Once a week I empty the bin and cut the hair off the brushes. That’s what I said, cut the hair off the brushes. It comes with a tool to make this chore a little easier but I have a dedicated pair of scissors to help. I’ve had it about 6 months now and it has worked flawless for me. The only drawback is having to clean the thing. But like I said, I don’t vacuum and if it wasn’t for the Roomba my floor would (and has) looked like it is being invaded by an alien dust bunny convention. I’ve had spiders get tangled up in them and die. I suspect some of my dust bunnies were involved in the Kennedy assassination.

Anyway, from personal experience I would be less worried about whether this thing would fall off stairs and more worried about whether you (or your wife) want to clean it when needed.

We picked up our Roomba at Costco, and it does a decent job, particularly when you just let it go and do its own thing. Carpeted floors come up pretty clean, but it really rocks on hardwood floors.

We have 5 small dogs, so dog fur is an issue on the carpeted areas. The Roomba keeps up well to keep things looking tidy, but we do find ourselves using the upright vacuum 2 or 3 times a month to throughly pick up dog fur.....

We have a Roomba at work and it does a decent job cleaning the foam in the office, but on occasion, someone leaves the door open and it finds its way into the shop and gets stuck in the worst places.

Hell yeah, My Fiance and I got the "animal" Dyson a few weeks ago. We have Cats and its amazing all the shit it will pick up. I like how you empty it as well.

How do the pets take to these things running around?
