I have 137K on my 2000 XJ and it starting to pull left under initial braking, and some noise from the back.

What is involved in doing the rear shoes, What other hardware should be replaced.

Just do one side at a time so you have a reference to look at when putting all the parts back together. Nothing difficult about it though. If you're going through the trouble of replacing your shoes, you might as well replace your springs and self-adjusters at the same time. They are cheap and the self-adjusters are prone to failure (could be part of your pulling problem). If I recall, all the replacement hardware for both wheels will be less than $25.

Also, if your wheel cylinders are leaking, replace them (only $10 each)

if your drums have a lip worn into them, get them turned ($10 each)

A Craftsman Brake Tool Kit is very handy, but not 100% necessary.
