88 xj idle problem

my 88 xj seems to wanna run at 800 rpms but seems liek its sputtering liek a mis and i replaced the spark plugs and cap n rotor what else coudl it be?

Could be plug wires, an injector, maybe a bad lifter. Try a can of Seafoam, it seemed to help a little bobble at idle on my rig.

dump a bottle of FI cleaner in the gas too or use 2 ozs of acetone to 10 gallons of gas. might help.

Also check you EGR valve. To test, just push a big screw into the valcum line, or a golf tee, and if the problems fixed, you need a new valve. If thats not it and you already did the seafoam. Id pull off the exhaust and see if that fixes the problem. Also if you think it might be the exhaust drive on the interstate, and it seems like the transmission is retarded, you have a clogged cat.
