i was surprised at how well i thought McCain did. I thought it would be completely one sided and Obama would win the election based on these debates.

McCain spanked him. That 'million dollars for every day he's been in the Senate' comment about Obama whipped his ass. :looser::yelclap:

I was surprised at how well Obama did and a little disappointed by how McCain seemed to step around the questions. Generally he is very direct with his answers. It was very irritating to listen to them constantly misquote and misrepresent each other. I dont mind them going at each other but their intentional misrepresentation of each other was frustrating for me.

I had to give the debate to Obama just because he did better than I expected he would and McCain kinda disappointed me. I'm still voting for McCain but the debate wasnt a good one for him.

I only watched a little bit, the part where they were talking about 'what would you cut'. McCain was the only one that actually answered the question. I admired Obama's skill at avoiding the negative (he did not say 'I will cut X and Y') but instead parried with positives ('I will focus on these priorities'), but still he did not actually answer the question while McCain did, so points for style to Obama, points for integrity to McCain.

It seems to me that both of them were really looking for a win, a knockout punch almost.

McCain seemed a little tired, off-kilter, but he didn't do badly. Obama seemed to be girly and pissy, taking great offense at every little dig, but he didn't do badly either.

"The next president can't debate whether or not we should have gone into Iraq in the first place, he has to work with what we have" maybe not a direct quote, but close.

I agree that McCain could have done better, but Obama wasn't able to talk about all the places he has been and what he has seen, unlike McCain who talked about his experience.

Does Obama have a speech impediment? Not the long puases, but a slight lisp and stutter? I was driving so only listened on the radio and couldn't see lip sync.

Obama sucks at talking and frequently gets caught up on himself unless he has a teleprompter in front of him...

Unfortunetly I didnt get to watch it since I was at work, so I didnt vote either way...

that was big for me, him talking about his experience scored points for me.

That's pretty much the whole election in a nutshell, no? As an outsider that's the way I see it.

Now if I could even get remotely interested in our own election...

I watched a re-run of the debate late last night. I think McCain did better. I do not trust Obama, something seems devious to me. i think he will do anything or say anything to get elected. There has been some rumor that he is going to drop Biden and pick Hillary up if Biden losses the debate.

I think Hillary should get Obama back and run as a independent, that would cost him the election and she knows she can't beat McCain anyway. They(Obama-Clinton) would cancel each other out just like they did in the primarys.

I'll be more interested in watching Palin rip apart Biden limb by limb. That guy is a azzhat!

I thought McCain did a better job at answering the "hows" & "whys" than Obama. Everytime Obama said what he was going to do, or wanted to do, he never said how he was going to implement it.

I can see why the sheep of America might vote for Obama though, he's very good at avoiding the negative and telling us what we "want" to hear.

I foresee a few stumbles along the way for both candidates but Obama is going to get stumped when the questions get more indepth. Should be entertaining.

Just out of curiosity, where do our brothers to the north stand on our presidential choices? Or dont you guys care?
Down here this is the most discussed election in recent history. I dont know if its because of the state of our economy or our military indevours or just because one of them is black and one is a woman.

How about all of the above, along with lowest approval rating in recent history in the current congress and president, and a perceived rare opportunity for real change (right or wrong) by many new first time registered voters in the Obama camp.

Sorry, I am down south, LOL.

On the Debate, McCain did better than I expected, but then so did Obama. The press had said repeatedly that McCain was the better debater before the debate, but I did not see that.

I think including economic policy regarding the current financial crisis in the debate as a significant issue of national security hurt McCain in what should have been one of his strongest issues, national security.

Me personally, I wouldn't care if the guy (Obama) was purple, there is something about him I do not trust. I feel he is a "Trojan Horse" for another hidden cause and agenda. Nothing racist about this for me, I just do not trust him.

I think we are in trouble if he is elected. McCain is at least a true patriot to America, Obama I'm not so sure about.

I'm from VA so we are neither northern or southern although I consider myself a "southerner" as i grew up on a farm and in the country and live a southern lifestyle. My Dad was a "died in the wool" democrat. I vote for the best man for the job and for America.

The main thing I see about this election is people need to register to vote and then exorcise that right no matter who they vote for.

Like my dad told me when we argued over Bill Clinton and I was complaining, he said "Did you vote", I answered "no". He answered back with, " Shut the F*** up then!"

He was right, if you don't vote you have no right to complain/boast about how things go.

I have voted every election since!!! You gotta love a Dad who was a high school football coach, and my coach as well! He had a way of "motivating" me!

I agree with you 100% about Obama. There really is something shady about him. I dont agree with a few of McCains views but at least I trust him.

As for not having a right to complain if you dont vote. I dont think you have a right to complain even if you do vote. Reason being, democracy has worked and the majority has spoken. Even if things dont go your way you really cant ask for more than that. About the closest to a complaint you should come is the occasional "I told you so". Thats assuming a fair election process.

How about NAU and socialism? ;) Sure seems like he's spent a lot of time in Europe taking notes and selling them on his positions...hmmm...

I couldn't DISagree with this more. As a citizen, you have a duty to use your vote responsibly. If you don't like the candidates, DON'T VOTE. Voting for the sake of 'doing so' is bullshit. I have just as much right to complain about someone as the next person and I challenge anyone to convince me otherwise. ;) :patriot:

In a true democracy, you have the right to complain anytime. It's called freedom of speech.
