Code P1698 - No CCD/J1850 Message From TCM. No CCD/J1850 messages received from the electronic transmission control module (EATX) or the Aisin transmission controller.
A few weeks ago my check engine light & key light came on. Went to Autozone to have the ECM read and the damn light would not come back on and the reader could not pull any codes. The check engine did not come on again until last night and it is not staying on it will come on for a while then go out. I did manage to get the code read at Autozone today though!!
Any input here would be very helpfull!! Just did a search and everything I have read points to CPS?!?!? Can this be right?
I am getting a little worried here as I do not have alot of money to throw at the heep now due to my divorce!!

That is what i am afraid of!! Would the ECM or TCM from my wrecked 98 work in the 00?

I had that same issue with my 1990 Ford F-350 check engine light would come and go off,it turned out it was the O2 Sensor when I finally found it,Maybe?

The PCM Vin Number in the must also be the same as the one stored by the gauge cluster. All replacement PCM/s (OBD2) must be re-flashed with the correct VIN. Dealer and NAPA are the only two places I found locally that can do it.

Is that for the PCM only or will I have to get the TCM reflashed as well? I was thinking about just swapping TCM's.

I don't think the you need to do anything other than install a TCU from th same year XJ as the current one you have. I know that I could not use a 98 TCU in my 97 heep.

Pull and clean your CPS while you're workin' on the heep. The range selector signal goes through it.

Clean it out with contact cleaner, add some dielectric grease...good for another 5 years or so.
