88 xj 4.0 this part is located on drivers side between airbox and fender.
this is front of jeep

what does the yellow lettering say?
where do the wire/hoses run?

EGR solenoid valve, I think, but not positive.

that sounds right.
it is between the manifold vacuum and the egr valve.
that is, one line runs into the manifold, and one line runs to the egr valve.

IIRC, it's covered in the FSM, testing and such, but I don't remember any specifics. Good Luck

The way to test if you need anything on your heep or not. Start your engine and then start taking the vacume off of stuff, slowly and carefully. I took all egr off the intake and you can pretty much remove that device too.

EGR Solenoid valve is right. I have tested mine several times.

This solenoid also controls evaporative canister purge, I believe, so even if you diable your EGR, leave it connected.
