I have a question about Utah emissions and if my current exhaust will pose a problem. I installed shackles along with quadratec HD rear leaf springs back in April, and to make the exhaust clear the shackle I bent the exhaust away from the shackle about 1 inch. then before the Geo-Cashing trip i got a rear hitch from the junk yard (for got to get the hanger plate off the junk yard jeep) so the exhaust was ratteling aginst the shackle and the hitch (there is not alot of clearance there). so I cut the exhaust off (about 6 inches). since my jeep in a 95 they stick the probe up the tail pipe. Will i have any problems with it come december when I need to renew?

Here's the link to the Official Vehicle Safety Inspection Manual for Passenger Vehicle and Light Duty Truck 2008 from Utah's Department of Public Safety:

so it says
Reject if:
Tail pipes do not extend beyond the outer periphery of the
passenger compartment or are severely bent or broken.
the factory tail pipe does not stick out past the bumper?....
a bolt on tip would fix that right.

I would put a shorter bolt on tip to get it closer. I had the same issue with my 2000. My tip is just short of the shackle bolt and only contacts when wheeling and articulated.

after reading more indepth the official rules I have a few more questions...Wheel spacers, if I do decide to get them are they considered custom wheel adapters or are they still wheel spacers? the rules say that spacers are not UDOT approved for road, is that refering to the idiots who use washers on the wheel bolts?also have a question on the flairs... I have 3.5" o lift with stock rims and tires (well 235/75R15) I removed my flairs will it have any problems with that? Lastly I know there are mixed feelings about not rnning front swaybars on the road. on lowering cars on that PDF it actually mentioned swaybars, but it does not on lifted vehicles. does the swaybar need to be fully instaled with both links to pass?thanks for any and all help. this is the first time I hav ever had a lifted jeep trying to pass. and I would like it to pass the fist time.

If your tires stick out past the side of the jeep (due to your removing the flairs), they will call you on it. Some places will just give you a warning, others will reject you.

Also, if the vehicle had a factory sway bar, it must have one now. I have some TJ flares that you can have for $50. They are trimed up to work with the XJ.

Where did you hear this?
Wheel spacers are legal "IF" they are the bolt on kind. They are considered adapters...not spacers. The type that are illegal are the type that just sit between the wheel and the hub.
