Reman Head

I am looking to replace the head on my 88 XJ 4.0 and am looking for experience/advice on vendors.

I have been looking at getting the head from Clearwater Cylinder Head, Inc ( http://www.cylinder-heads.com ) and want to know if anyone has experience dealing with them or any other vendor.

Thanks.

Why not use a junkyard head? That would be my choice. They're like $30 around here, but obviously that doesn't stand true across the nation. Machining on mine when I rebuilt was around $70 I think. $100 head doesnt sound bad. Plus theirs are gonna be seasoned heads too, no?

Just a thought.

The whole reason for going with a reman is that I can get a complete, clean, tested head with all new seals, springs, etc., for about the same as the machine shop wants to grind the valves and check for flatness.

I did a search on Clearwater's site for a Chrysler 4.0 and it came up with the Jeep in the listing for $275.

the head on your 88 is an AMC/Jeep head. if you use a head from 91 and up, you will also need the intake and exhaust manifold from a 91+ and do some other mods to the throttle body and tps

Right now, I need to keep it simple. My head is a 2686 which Clearwater lists here: http://www.cylinder-heads.com/details.cfm?itemid=980

I also found one at Cylider Heads International in Texas at http://www.headsonly.com/index.htm . Has anyone dealt with them? It looks like it is about the same price and terms.
