newly installed 242 problem

today I installed a rebuilt 242 to replace a broken one and Im having some problems. first of all, should you be able to move the shift lever by hand? I couldn't but put it in anyway. Now I can't shift the transfer case, I don't know it its the linkage or what. When test driving it afterwards, the back wheels spun in the grass and the front didn't so its in 2wd or something else is wrong. Any help on this would be appreciated thanks.

is the handle stuck. did it move free with no t-case installed. but check for binds or interference.

then i would check for binds and make sure its connected correctly.

did you try moving the little tab that connects to the shifterlinkage prior to installation?

when we swapped my brothers t-case it could be shifted using the tab that shifts the case with the help of plyers or some other gripping device. if not then the case wasnt properly rebuilt
