i do recal reading a service bulitain from jeep about these kind of cracks. i think it had a part numberfor a patch panel of sorts and you had to drill a hole at either end of the cracks to stop them and then weld the cracks and put the patch on the outside. maybe someone else has access to the bulitain cause im not 100% sure if i remember it all

Hes right Duane, drill a hole at each end to stop the cracks for now. They defiently have to be patched, might be a good time to pickup a set of the TMR racing front frame plates. I saw a set of these in the National Classifieds last week I believe.

Doesn't look like they cover the front all the way. Would be kinda cool if they did that, but you could tie into the TNT or C-Rok plate real well...
Those are pretty cool.

Some strap would be OK down there, then it could be welded to the side plate. A guy could easily bend some strap for it.

C-rock raps under. Mine looked the same but with some weld and a c-rock no issues

The outer plate wraps under at one point. I only remember it picking up one bolt though.
This link shows some of the typical frame failures:

Do a search. There have been several LONG discussions on this topic.
My basic memory is the following:
1. Weld up the current cracks
2. Plate inside and outside frame rails (long enough to support as much as feasibly possible, probably totally custom plates)
3. Put it all back together and hope it holds for as long as you expect to use the Jeep.
If you use short plates temporarily they will just promote cracking further rearward.

I have a crack in the exact same spot, but it only goes in about an inch...think it's something I should have welded up ASAP to stop it, or just keep an eye on it? Of the 2 pieces of metal sandwiched together there...it felt like it only went threw the first piece and not the second...but I could be wrong.

Get it welded ASAP. Even driving it on the street will cause it to crack more now that it has started. Then get some CROK or THOR plates installed. Preferably before you wheel again.

yes do have it welded now do not wait. And look at your power steering box and make sure that there is no dimple on the frame were your bolts are . mine started out small but know they are big and bad.

So anyone know any welding shops near Everett?
Luckily my rig will be out of commission for the next week anyhow, putting all new gaskets, timing chain, ect. in the engine...so everything is ripped apart (hints how I noticed the crack).
