I thought I might ask what tools you use to get to the ground strap on the block end. I had no luck using a normal socket, extension, and ratchet..........

I used a ratchet wrench this last time--could only get a couple clicks at a time.

I think it's an 11/16" hex, use a mid-length socket for ease of access. You should be able to find a mid-length at Sears.

Yeah mid length socket, swivel joint, decent extension.

I only had 1/2" drive at the time

fearing that i would snap the stud/bolt that holds the grounding strap to the head on my 89, i went to the next stud over and added another grounding strap from the head to a spot to next to the gounding strap on the firewall.
