Will a 97-up lift gate fit an 96? Any one ever go thorough with that swap?

not without ALOT of modifications....hinges on the 84-96 are on the outside and the 97-01 mount inside...not worth it in any sence

the hinges wont interchange very well...i think the 96 hinges would rip the hatch off where its mounted

It's not just a hinge issue either, the taillights are different so it would probably look goofy too

plus the latch where the gate hooks into at the bottom is different

Also - the 97+ hand latch kind of sucks. I've had to fix mine twice in the last year and the body only had 91K on it.
I wish I'd bought a 96 with twice the mileage for half the price - and no damn lift latch.

The swap is not possible due to different body styles.

You will have to do some trimming on the bottom (97+ longer at bottom body line than the older ones) as well as around the lights. Even if you get the hindges figured out, then you got to start the metal trimming and opening handle.
