Just replaced the passenger side back in April.....guess i shoulda bought the damn drivers side one when i bought the passenger one back then. This really sucks!

Yea, it may suck but you are learning, you're up to 'shoulda', next step is 'there are two so I'll take both'....
Kinda like network cabling, it's always MUCH better to be 8ft too long than 1" too short...

Regulators for xjs suck, I had mine go whilst in an ice storm the day before Christmas. You could use some vice grips on the cable rail to hold the window up.

While outside trying to prop it up, the window will only go back up about 1/4 of the way before something stops it from going up anymore....making me think the regulator's not broken?
Plus, I doesn't look like the old regulator i pulled out of the passenger side....doesn't have the pipe cleaner looking part that the other one did, plus it looks fairly new and shiney.....like who ever owned it before me already had this problem and fixed it.
also, it didn't give the same warning signs as the passenger one....matter of fact it gave NO warning what so ever. The passenger side got real slow and tired sounding for about a month before it finally let go.
interesting....
Oh and i learned my lesson on network cabling a LONG time ago....just like you said, better to be 8ft long than 1ft short.

Very true. You can always cut OFF, but you can't cut ON...
I learned that a long time ago, but I have had to work with people who hadn't learned that lesson yet. Therefore, I usually try to get them to "make the crawl" with a supply of cable that they think will reach... If they think it will make it, then I know it won't. Oddly enough, I haven't been wrong yet...

Tell you what to check...
Underneth the treaded rod pipe (pipe cleaner) there is a rubber hose. This hose is what tells the rod where to go (guides it). If the hose pops off the rod will go down and jam up against the bottom of the door. Just pull hte door panels off and check the hose, if it's off or split reinsall or replace it.

Running network cable is for consultant and sub-contractors.

Thats just it, there is no threaded pipe...thats what i found interesting about it when I looked at it just a little while ago. I see a what looks to be a plastic pipe? in it's place.

Okay - ti may be different with the late model (my experiance ends in 1989!). I'd take apart the other side and compare.

Speaking of cabling tools Rich...
I've gotten more use out of my tone tool on my Jeep than on my netowrk ;)

Not sure though...I know the new regulators are supposedly "improved" so that this doesn't happen again..and it's definately different than the old one I pulled out of the passenger side that i wish now i had kept for comparison.

Well do you have a four door? Chances are the rear doors are still the original design.

Yes I do, But I'd rather not pull those pannels off unless I absolutely have to....whoda thunk that those 7 year old plastic clips that hold the pannels on would be fragile (pronounced fra-g-lay...its an italian word) by now?...lol

I'm learning that it isn't a bad thing to have manual window cranks :).

And people wonder why I get base vehicles with no power options. The only one I would find half useful is the heated outside mirrors to get the ice off in the morning and afternoon.
