i know i need it, currently looking into it. i dont want to buy one of the widely available "kits" cuz they are just plain too stinkin expensive when you look at it, and you can buy parts individually much cheaper, so what i'm asking is who is running what for snatch blocks, tree savers, and tow straps? not so much worried about choker chains or gloves. i can purchase chains and gloves basically anywhere. i've looked at 4 wheel parts, quadratec, northridge 4x4, olympic 4x4, central 4 wheel drive, and just about any other place i could think of off the top of my head. so tell me where you got what, and what kinda pricing they gave ya, so i have something to work off of. trying not to spend over 150 bucks for everything.

I got some products from Scott, and they were all awesome. He has kits, or individual pieces.

Pretty sure I got my snatch strap at tractor supply.
That's really all you need, or at least all I ever have:
A 25' snatch strap, good front n rear recovery points, at least one buddy to wheel with, and the ability to resist doing anything too terribly stupid...
:D

Edit: Here ya go, 2x30' strap, 18,000#, $38 (http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay_10551_10001_43890_-1______?rFlag=true&cFlag=1)

theres a lack of tractor supply co's in Washington.
i agree with all of what you said, and i dont wheel alone, but i like to pack for contingencies, because you never know what you need, until you need it and dont have it. (the whole be prepared thing)
i got a tree saver today thru 4 wheel parts (they were having a sale on warn)
still lookin for a good snatch block and a tow strap.

Huh. If I knew that, I forgot it... It's been eight years.
Anyway, they'll ship for $9, but $47 starts sounding like less of a deal...
:dunno:

Check Fastenal, Grainger and McMaster-Carr for shackles, straps, and snatch blocks.

Our local Fastenal has shackles cheaper that anyone I've seen. If you have one near you they are definetly worth checking out. Don't remember seeing snatch blocks but I'm sure they can get them. Grainger always seems like they are a little pricey to me. I do like Mcmaster Carr though. They ship things very quick too.

I pack the following, but I wheel alone 75% of the time:
A heavy come-along (big enough to pull your vehichle off its side)
A tall high jack
A 50' section of chain
A 30,000lb tow strap
A 20,000lb snatch block
A winch
A box full of all electical sensors that would cause a system shut down
A wooden plank
A big crow bar
A BFH
A shovel
And most important of all a winch.
Most of that stuff can be gotten at a good hardware store.
The wooden plank and the come along have seen just as much use as the winch. Good luck and be, be, be prepared the motto of the boy scouts....

Well Tom, I think I will let your imagination explain this one out. But if for whatever reason I need to beat a horse to death up in the Mountains, then yes my wooden plank would do just fine.:rof:

I get my shackles from OSH: they are fairly inexpensive and rated pretty high. You have to be carefull though to get ones with big enough openings so that they are easy to attach to straps.
