Any takers? Family fun run (If the wife is brave when she hears about the tippy parts)

Out of the 3 day weekend would like to run at least one day.

On trailDamage.com (http://www.traildamage.com) web site they list;

Red Elephant a 6
Mill Creek a 5
Bill Moore a 4

I figured after doing Red Elephant & Mill creek heading up Bill Moore to the lake and frying up some brats for afternoon lunch!

I have one guy with a YJ semi committed to it :)

Anybody? Let me know......

I think I could be persuaded....... All the DNC B.S. should be cleared up way before then, but technically, I'm on call today thru next Sunday..... :dunno:

I'll know more toward the end of the week.

Yella- you talking the truggy or the mild wheeler? :)

That would be cool, haven't been there for awhile, good to go back.

YELLAHEEP
August 24th, 2008, 22:13
Probably the Truggy. I may not have the '96 after the DNC week. Had a fellow Cop come buy and he liked it so much he said he'd like to buy it - after he too is done with the DNC. :dunno:

If it does sell, I'll be looking for a yellow '98+ to build.......

If I do take the Truggy...... I've GOT to get a muffler on that thing! Having the exhaust dump straight out of the cat just below the cab was murder on my melon! And I gotta get some axle breathers hooked up - the axles have open holes where there should be breathers and I left a few blops of 90W on Spring Creek.... :nono:

We'll see how this week shapes up.

I'm on call for that weekend, won't know if we work until quitting time Friday.

These trails look fun.

To all those wanting to go I say meet at the Starbucks 234 exit, Downieville at 9am Sunday morning the 31st. Hopefully it won't be too busy.

Closer to the end of the week I will see about a role call. If I supply cheesy bratz I need to know how many :)

I am not so sure its the fuel pump now. I just cleaned my IAC because of bad idle and it sometimes still does it but after it starts to idle high it idles really low and dies. I would be able to make it if there would be a chance of me running only one trail. I have to be back in town to go to the Rocky Mountain Showdown at 5:30.

SAME HERE! you have a '90 right? I have been running that bug for quite a while......I would start it up and run fine then get going and it would hold idle 2500 range, would have to pull over and shut it off and re-start couple times and would fix it. Totally intermittent sometimes right when I started it and sometimes going down the road. Other times coming to a stop it would idle so low it would die on me at a stop.

I did two things; I first replaced my IAC (looked pretty old), still did it, but not so often. Second; I ran a separate ground from the negative cable on the battery to the body somewhere ($8 fix). Knock on wood hasn't done it in like a month. Hypoid had a similar problem and ran a second ground wire off of the TPS sensor to the body and he said it fixed his problem. I have yet to do that one :)

Hypoid sent me a bunch of stuff I can forward to you, send me a PM with your email and I can pass it on care of Hypoid (he's the man! :D)

If we hit the trail head at 9am, we should be done with red elephant and mill creek by 1-2? Bill moore is easy to go down and you can head that way if you want? Let me know.....

"The man"...You funny guy there Matt! Most of my RENIX knowledge began with two words: "Yes Dear." LOL

First, clean all your grounds. RENIX is kind of sensitive to resistance changes.
Second, go over to OEM Tech and search Idle problems. Pay close attention to replies by 5-90, ECOMike, MikeForte. There are of course others, I just can't recall much this late.

What city/town do you live in xjboy?

yeah I have been going over the oem tech and just replaced my iac last night it still idles a little high but it has stopped dying from idling too low but it still seems to idle low but then it goes up a little and stays running hopefully I can check the grounds tonight I know last time I did they were pretty bad. But on another note I do believe I will make it ok sunday. Anyone else other than skully? I almost forgot I live in Westminster.

Hey I am just glad that I found some people to wheel with. i usually wheel with my friend brad but his xj has been in the shop for a few weeks with some engine problems and we both have been working so much this summer that we havent even been up once. This summer has been depressing for the XJ she hasnt seen a trail in so long. But hopefully everything works out this weekend and lots fun is had.

So far, so good for me too. Plans are to spend Saturday fixing the axle breather issues so I'm not pollutin' the trail and re-route the rear brake line along the rear axle so I don't rip it off on sumpthin'. Couple other small leak issues and flush the coolant. Should be all it needs.......

......... Yella's Truggy will just walk all over everything and make us look stock :)

I will take final role call on Saturday and plan whatever, I am bringing my little coleman dual burner stove and fry up some cheesy bratz, if someone wants to join me just say so.

Just me now, my co-pilot, my wife has her mother here and also she didn't think it was wise to take my little copilot (10 month old son) out for a little while until he can stop falling asleep in the middle of the trail and hold his head up better :) .........I think the tippy parts scared her, she does not like the off camber stuff, she gets out and walks...

Hypoid was talking throwing in a line at Bill Moore Lake, from what I remember you have to park down and walk a little to the lake. ...been six years since I was there.

...I need to get out more, like XJBoy said, finding a someone/group to go and also coordinating plans is the hardest part.

I camped up at Bill Moore last year and the water was way to shallow and had nothing in it at all. I could have walked across it. Doubt anything is there.
Speaking of Yellas Truggy and how we are going to look like nothing. What is everyone running?
I am running a soft 5in with 32's open diffs with 3.55s.

You hear that Hypoid, maybe no fish? .......although that was last year......

As far as gear; I have a hybrid lift; RE 3.5 with extra isolators in front for 4"+, rear Rusty's 3.5 with Tera shackles for 5", D44 rear factory track lock, open front, 3.55's, 31' Trxus M/T's, Wench in front I have only used 4 times in a 5 year period on everyone else, (if I used it more my wife would get jealous.) Skids, rocker guards.......broken wind wing for better air flow.... :)

Alrighty then! Roll call!

Who is all going to meet tomorrow morning at the gas station/Starbucks @ the Downieville Exit #234 at 9am for Red Elephant/Mill Creek/ Bill Moore?

Also as mentioned before I am frying some JohnsonVille Cheesy Brats for lunch, and for that who wants to join and eat brats with me, I need to know so I can get enough brats? Who ever wants to join on the brats bring the chips :)

BYOD (Bring your own drinks)

I did a quick link about the directions to get there; (Thanks to Traildamage)
Driving Directions
From Denver take I-70 to exit 234 at Downieville.

Turn right at the bottom of the exit, then left again to run alongside the highway on the frontage road.

Travel west to cross under I-70 and past the entrance to Spring Creek. Keep going until you cross under I-70 again and turn right on a dirt road immediately after going under the highway (only a few feet from the highway).
Meeting Places
Meet at the Starbucks next to the gas station at Downieville, exit 234 off of I-70.

Put me down for a couple brats Skully - Thanks! I can bring chips and cookies.

My cell is 720-879-1399. There's always the possibility I may be a touch late to make the 9am meeting...... I'm not a morning person! :D So if you don't see me there, call.

I'm in! My wife is working tomorrow, so I'm puppy setting. I had to take our puppy on a trail today to see if he could handle it. After an hour or so on the trail today, he curled up an went to sleep. I'll have to feed him around noon or he'll get crazy.(Jumping and biting) I may also have to stop suddenly for a potty break. I hope that's not a problem.

Anyone else that didn't reply yet and still planning on going just show up there at the starbucks/Gas Station off of Exit #234 around 9-9:30am. I will check one more time before I leave in the morning. I will make sure we have some extra brats just in case.

Had an interesting night, last minute shakedown/system check discovered my ujoint was bad and did a marathon swap on my passenger side axle shaft. (The ones I got from Yella monttttths ago  I'm lazy.....) had to go rent a slide hammer to get the stubborn hub assembly off!!!

I just realized I have two bottles of propane for the coleman and both feel half full, anybody got a bottle laying around bring it just in case. I will check King Soopers, on my way to get the brats!

It was a good trip. Other than the trail not being marked very well to keep us off the goofy spur roads (that in many cases looked more traveled than the correct route..... ) it's a cool trail that most rigs with 3" lift and a rear locker would find challenging fairly frequently.

The Empire Hotel is......... well....... interesting to say the least. How that place doesn't get moldy/mildewy and generally gross is beyond me. People just pile up the clothing, blankets, pillows, food, and whatnot...... Kinda cool to read a few entries in the guest books though.

Rain set in about 1:30 or so and was fairly constant the rest of the day. It really came down as we got off the trail........ the drive from Empire to Downieville was pretty wet in the Truggy. I believe XJBoy will be posting some interesting pics of some 30' rooster tails of road water from the Truggy tires.... :D

Thanks again Matt for the brat-fry! YUM!

LOL.....Yella went over everything pretty easy until it rained.

Then it got a little muddy and slick in spots, gave him some inkling of a challenge, okay maybe one spot. The rutted out area with the roots of the tree sticking out that I caught him briefly spinning all four of the Truggy's tires.

It was definitely a lot of fun and glad to have the great company;Yellaheep, XJboy, Ty, Rangerick, and his poor puppy which for the life of me do not remember his name! Thanks again guys!

....I remember now since it has been 6 years ago about all the silly intersections and dead ends that have no markings........imagine running it at night?

....didn't even see this post.....not much sleep since Sunday. Came home my 10month old had a fever, he got a cold :(

Red Elephant & Mill Creek has a lot of off camber which is nothing, but a lot of wonderfully placed rocks to snag body, lot of little drop offs. Red Elephant you have to run from Downieville side as it is nothing but an incline all the way up with wonderful deep ruts and rocks challenging you to climb at the same time to Mill Creek. With no lift it would probably result in body getting scraped and banged up. If you had rocker guards, transfer skid, and tank skid, with carefully placed tires you can slide off of everything :)

Bill Moore if you take that from Empire is rated a 4 by Traildamage and you can go all the way up to Bill Moore lake. That would not be a problem for you. Like I said though if you do not want body damage stay off of Mill Creek
