View Full Version : The Ledge

This on Potts Mountain Jeep Trail in Craig County VA. the vid doesn't do it justice but its a shear ledge of 6-8' in height. I have never seen anyone run it in anything less than a buggy/truggy and nothing less than 40's. Matt ran it in his 90' XJ 44/9 on 36" IROKS, the motor/tranny is all original w/255k+ miles on it. What you can't see on the video is the drop off about where the camera man is, one mistake and you are going on a backwards down hill ride/roll. The top side has only enough room to put a XJ there and then there is a drop off from there down the other side of the mountain.

Anyway, watch and enjoy! Some good spotting going on with this run as well.

Not great quality but;

Thats a pretty good vid but that spotter should have been stacking rocks to help the rear catch some traction. The guys I ride with have had our open/open rigs in some nastier spots than that. Its always funny when people say you locked front and rear and we say nope. They tell us we are nuts to go in there.

It appears to maybe 6' to his left.. but what he went up doesnt seem to impressive... looks like he's just hung on the t-case cross member... maybe it's all camera, and atleast your wheeling....

But Chad29860... I'll pull winch cable before I'll stack rocks... IMO stacking rocks is cheating...

I'd try that on my 30's open/open.

Thanks for sharing!

the camera does NOT do the ledge justice. it's hard to climb up on foot just to get up there. i'll have to see if i have any better angles.

I'm trying to find my other pics as well, they may have been lost with the TTB site.

Its definetly worse than the camera shows.

Well they look pretty easy... absolutely nothing holding you up except tires slipping... sticky tires would walk it.. :eeks1:

I guess we have to take what we can get up here in VA.

Well Flash, if these folks were running that ledge they would be more impressed! I would never make a statement about a obstacle being "unimpressive" based on some pics and a poor quality video.

I've grown to expect some arrogance and ignorance around this site lately.

i have figured out over the years pictures never show how hard or easy something is . the extra pictures you posted make it looker hard than the vid did .

Good pics, different angles always show more depth than a video from one vantage point.... I think it's cool dude! :greensmok

I'd still try it open/open on 30's. Key word being try! I doubt I'd make it but try none the less.

but that's the point, if you try and get one thing wrong, you'll find yourself tumbling down a 30 ft embankment.

Exactly Steve, I can't bring myself to running that obstacle due to the drop off and no run-out at the bottom. Its gonna hurt if something "snaps" and you go back down in a hurry.

Those pictures do make it look more difficult... you sure that's the same spot?

I'm also not a big fan of off camber situations and I honestly hope that anyone that's running that has a cage and harness... nothing's worth risking your life that much more for...

After wheeling the XJ for awhile and finally adding a cage.. well everyone tried to tell me all along... a good cage should be your first "investment"..... luckly I didnt have to find out the hard way but they're right...

Yep, its the same place. We run that trail often. This is national forest so only "street legal" vehicles can go up in there. Matt is the only one I have witnessed running that rock in the last 2 years without getting a pull.

Yup, definitely the same spot, and definitely a lot harder than it looks from pics/vids.
