Note: He may have flopped...but I was pulled over for going 12mph over the speed limit! I just told the cop I just got the tires and my speed-o was off, but I didn't know by that much, and he let me go.

And Alex, you do suck at taking pictures. The ones you took are all blurry. Also, you didn't get any pics of the recovery on my camera. Somebody better have them.:twak:

Here's my pictures.

They day started out with a trip to our work area via the upper mainline trail. Scott had no problem getting through the tight sections with his rig.

El Presidente before disaster struck.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair006.jpg

We got to the work site without any problems and assessed the job. This is the new bypass for the Expressway rock face obstacle.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair008.jpg

Fortunately for us, an equipment operator had already dropped in a bunch of quarry rock and built most of the road. We think it needs more rock on th surface, and we plan to address that in the future. The road being mostly done saved us a bunch of time, but we needed to shore up the outside of the trail, and got to work on it.

Hans and Ryan moving logs to build a retaining wall.

Clearing out some branches.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair012.jpg

While we set chokers on the logs to be pulled up the bank, Duane put his Warn to good use pulling the trees up the bank and into place. Worked great.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair016.jpg

Ryan was frequently seen suckling from nearby trees. It was hot and humid up there!

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair021.jpg

The bypass pretty much complete. Some rebar was added to help hold the wall together.

When the work was finished, Ryan decided to try the rock. He made a few attempts, and with some spotting was able to get up the rock.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair032.jpg
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair031.jpg

All four tires were above the ledge, but the flange on his rear diff hung up on the rock. Everyone though he had this rock beat, and expected him to bump the axle over the rock and drive up the trail. But a small position adjustment turned into a major problem. Ryan will have to explain what happened, but I watched his Jeep roll backwards into a monster wheelstand, then flop over onto its roof.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair033.jpg

The Jeep was running upside down for what seemed like a long time, As I was getting out of my Jeep in shock. It was probably only a couple seconds, and Ryan shut it off. I ran over to him and heard him shouting he was "OK". I reached in and un-clicked his seatbelt after he was braced for the short tumble to the roof. He crawled out with just a couple small cuts.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair043.jpg
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair036.jpg

After flipping it onto its tires, Ryan reached in and turned the key. It fired right up, but burned up the oil that had leaked into the intake.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair054.jpg

We pushed out the windshield and Ryan drove it back down to the parking lot.
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o146/M1XJ/Walker%20Valley/WalkerValleytrailrepair056.jpg

We loaded it onto my trailer for the short trip home. It's pretty messed up, but didn't fold like a taco.

Drag your trailer down to Warrior, $300 gets you a clean 88 Chief shell to swap everything into (including motor, it overheats badly) :)

Cut and tube in WA? One of the things you told me last fall about the TTC was that part of your success was having the full body rig in our climate. Why sacrifice that?

I was unable to make this work party despite my best intentions, family vacation interefered in a major way. Sorry I missed the work party, glad you're okay Ryan. That sucks about the rig, but thankfully you were among a competent, helpful crew and everything turned out about as well as could be hoped for. Give a holler when you decide what to do about the rig and if you need any help.

p.s. are you still thinking Moab is a possibility? You can ride down with me if your rig won't be ready.
