Getting ready to install overhead console

I'm added a Overhead Console to my 2001 XJ using part from an 1998 ZJ. But the old 98 ZJ console had red felt on. So I pulled off the old felt. But now there is stale some glue residue on it. what is the best way of remove the glue residue ?

The fabric was sagging and dry rotted on mine, so I pulled it off and it looked like yours. I sanded and used paint thinner and spray painted it with Fusion paint. (PIA to get the glue off.) I didn't like the look and bought some grey 'mouse fur' looking cloth at Wal-Mart and glued it on using 3M auto spray adhesive. To me it looks almost as good as new and better than paint, but everybody's different.

i found if you get a cheap (new) toilet brush, snap the head off with 4 inches of handle, and chuck it up in a cordless drill it comes off, worked for me anyway
