ax-15 2wd and 4wd same?

I got a 90xj 4x4 with an ax 15. I think the syncors are going out. I found a ax15 in a 91 but it is 2wd. Can you make that work or is it a big PITA? Also would the splines be the same a 90 is not the high output and the 91 is?

The best thing to do would be to look at the 2wd and see if the tail section unbolts to allow the tailshaft to be changed to the shorter 4wd version.

You could also ask a tranny shop if the cases are the same between the two. I am not 100% positive, but I would be willing to bet they are. You would just need to have the tailshafts swapped.

Well sorry to disapoint you but you would have to rebuild it since the output shaft for a 2wd is too long and does not mate w/ the transfercase. you will have to rebuild it with a new shaft.
