how to reteach the computer??

i put another computer in my XJ and now all she does is run then every now and again she dies.. cranks for a few seconds and with help of the throttle she stays running. ive been told the computer needs to reteach itself. is this true??? if so ive also heard there are ways to do this. like keep the rpms at a sertain speed for a certain time.. please help..

get it started run it up to 4k and hold it for a second, then while still taching 4k or so switch the ignition off. It should cause the IAC to reset and the computer with it.
