I'd trim a little more out of the back just to be safe. Definately will never have to worry about rubbing no matter how big your tires are unless they rub on the hood.

Question, how hard was it to go to a secondary power steering resevoir and have you noticed it staying cooler like that?

rredalty
August 4th, 2008, 18:08
On a factory setup it wouldn't affect much that I can gather but what you see there is the reservoir for the full hydraulic steering setup.

Ok, I got the fenders on but I have run into an isseu. The front header panel won't sit far back enough to connect to the fenders so I can do a few things; one would be not run the header panel at all, also could legnthen the fenders to reach or I can run the header panel chopped up to let the upper tube come through( where my problem lies.) Give me some input on this, as I'm unsure on what I want to do and wether not I want to put that much time into something I know is goint to get broke. I really want it to stay Jeep looking but I am at a crossroads here.
Also in the pic here you can tell exaclty how much has been ditched from the front.

It can be done to look very clean just takes ALOT of fab work. If you were red you could look in advanced fab and search for Jeff 98xj WI but here's a link to his pic's of the entire process he did.

Matt is the hoop weleded in place or just tacked? If tacked can it be shortened so that it sits in the header panel where it curves up? Therefore moving the header closer to the fenders? Another option would be to get another set of fenders and use them to fill in or lenghten them.

I have seen Jeffs build and as nice as it is, please keep in mind that this is a trail only vehicle and it will be broken. I have thought about the fender legenthing but i'm looking at 60+ for a set of fenders. I have an idea brewing in my head but I'll have to see if I can get it to work. As for shortening the hoop, I need it to stay where it is so I can keep the radiator behind it.

Made some more progress tonight. Got the hood and bumper cut down, more tube into it, new header panel trimmed and the fenders in a temp position. Front ain't going to line up perfect but it looks like the grill/ header panel issue won't be terrible.

Do you still have enough room to pull the valve cover?

dave92cherokee
August 15th, 2008, 04:28
It looks like he does all he'd have to do is lift it up and roll it to one side or the other maybe.

rredalty
August 15th, 2008, 05:28
what it needs is a set of flanges on either end of the cross bar to allow it to be removable. Right now I don't need to pull the valve cover and until that point comes, I will just leave it the way it is.

After seeing what uncc did with the $500 cage kit and what I spent on steel alone I would buy the one uncc bought. It is all the main parts of a cage and fairly ready to go in. No figureing out bends just measure, cut, fit and weld. JMHO of course. Now the level of custome work done on matts is an entirely different story.
