I do love it.
But the whole spirit of a rat rod was to build something way cool on the cheap. $11-9 ain't cheap...
(I've got a pet theory that ugly 'froaders like a lot of ours are the rat rods of our day, but that's a discussion for a different thread...)

I thought you said cheap...

Thing's hideous! On the inside at least. Cool from outside. Wouldn't have been much money to snag some junkyard seats. It's like the guy got the idea of a rat rod and decided to do a caricature rather than a functional ride, which it would seem is the purpose of a rod of any sort, to be functional

Yeah, it's funny just how many different definitions of "rat rod" there are out there.
Most would say that it's supposed to be a car that kids in that era would put together from what was laying around the farm, in the barn and in the scrap pile - more of a "jalopy". Others think it's a car built for speed, custom body mods started, mostly primer, and a V8 - and resembles more of a full body car, maybe minus fenders. Then there's those that put 'em together with all the expensive parts, paint the frames, axles, engine and firewall, etc and leave the body nicely sprayed primer with all the body work done and then rat-fink pinstripes all over it........
You chose your definition........ I just thought this car was comical and certainly represented the "lets build a car from what's out in the barn" definition. It definitely brought a smile and chuckle out of me! But I wouldn't want it..... and yeah, not for nearly $12K.

Christ, looked through five pages of bullshit, and he's fabbed the frame rails, and just STARTing to mock up the rear axle.
I just don't care enough to read that much...

A more modern day representation I suppose... he used more high dollar/high tech tools to make that thing than anyone building a typical rat rod back in the day. There's no question that his rat rod is high quality..... but I think that's where it misses the mark..... quality wasn't in the original equation when rat rods came around.
Not trying to take anything away from Chopperman's build - it's nice, but that's the problem - I don't believe rat rod was supposed to be synonymous with nice. Hell, the engine/blower would have paid to build 3 "normal" rat rods.
....... in my humble opinion of course.... :D

Has some nice stuff on it, 383, 6 spd, 9incher, new wiring, ect..
But I think some of the 'rat rod' guys let the rust get a little bit too much of the whole project. Some paint is nice, without having rust flakes fly around in your face at 70mph.

Trust me this car has alot of VERY nice parts and everything is NEW
With about another 4K in paint, windows, and interior this car would sell for around 45K
That takes away everything cool about a rat rod. My idea of one, anyway.
To each his own, of course.
