Gear ratio

It won't be.

Check under the heads of the screws holding the covers on - the ratio should be there.

Typical ratios for the I6-equipped XJ are 3.07 for the manual transmission, and 3.55 for the AW4 auto. The 3.55 gears are more closely matched to the AW4 than the 3.07s to the BA-10/AX-15, let me tell you...

OK So I have a 8.35 rear and a Dana 30 front. Now by using the S/N how do I determine the gear ratios?

It is not in my manual

Thanks
Adam
the tags on the outside of the diff cover bolts should have it

Both should be matched, unless someone has molested one or the other...

Oh, and I too can attest to the 3.07 not being well suited to the AW4. My 87 had a Pukegoat BA10/5 in it's earlier life with the forest service.

The AW4 struggles with the tall ratio on hills. I wouldn't even think about towing with mine until I regear.......
